Last visit to Paris in February this year and lots people (locals and tourists like myself) were wearing jeans! I noticed that on prior trips to other European cities a couple of years ago too. Not sure why you say not to wear jeans other than it sounds like you personally don't approve of others wearing them...

Mathieu, I did see some of the FCUK shirts you are talking about, but unfortunately there were also a few of the others.

Walking down the street in Portland Or a couple of weeks ago, we passed a couple that were young and kinda hip looking. She was pregnant and her tee shirt still stopped below the bustline and her jeans started below the naval.
It was not a look I would recommend.

I want a pair of those new jeans for $255- that are called the Miracle Bra for your Butt LOL

Scarlett, what I REALLY want are the walking shoes made in the UK, that help reduce cellulite!!!! They had a show on the BBC that had before and after results for women who wore the shoes...and they worked !!!!!! They are 225$. Yikes!

I was in Paris last week and knew that jeans might not be the best choice, but I was glad I brought mine. They were all I wore and I noticed a ton of other people in them. I certainly did not stand out. (I did leave my white sneaks at home! And I don't wear baseball hats, so that wasn't a problem).

jeans are all over Europe.

As for wearing jeans for hiking, no way.
I have tromped miles over mountain trails and jeans are heavy, insulate poorly, absorb loads of water, and take forever to dry when they get wet. They are virtually useless as far as I am concerned.

You need something that wicks moisture and drys quickly.

I don't think people that LIVE in Paris or anyother city for that matter dress in skirt and heels or suit and tie all the time. They live there so they go to work, they go to the store, they go to the park, hang out with friends, ride bikes, play sport, roller blade etc. and dress for the particular activity. JFK Jr. lived in New York and when he was working, at an event, or what ever you saw him in a suit and tie. If he was riding his bike on the weekend or roller blading, hanging out in the park or what ever, he was usually in shorts, t-shirt and one of those stupid backwards "dork hats". What I'm getting at, is in any city you see everything. People live, work, and play there. It would be lovely if everyone had "good taste" and dressed appropriately for every occaision, but alas, that is not always the case. Personally, I like to go in the cooler weather so I can wear panty hose...keeps things held in. My black stretch jeans are good for that too. Jennifer Lopez jiggles" well, that's one thing..me jiggle? NOT!!!!!! LOL

I agree with your but for another reason. Jeans are heavy, bulky, take forever to dry. And I find them uncomfortable to wear - must be the only one in USA to think so

My trip this past summer for the first time I took sneakers, white ones I usually wear to the gym no less (gasp, horrors). I pulled them out for the 1st time as we were getting ready for a day's outting, taking the bus to an outdoor market next town over to do the grocery shopping. What does my Swiss friend slip on her feet that same morning... you guessed it, white gym sneakers.

cigale...I am crushed. I was going to get some for my birthday,,,,waaahh . Any bit of improvement would help IMO. BTW, I love my jeans, and there is nothing more comfy than jeans and sweatshirt or t-shirt . Those that don't care for them, must not be of the "jean" generation ;-).

It really depends on what you're going to be doing. If you're just walking around town sight-seeing, for goodness sakes just wear something comfortable. Nobody cares. If jeans are what you like to wear, by all means wear them. Of course, if you want to go to a fashionable restaurant, jeans are unacceptable. But I think a blatant ban on jeans is just snobbery.

I'm going to take jeans this next trip for the first time ever. I might even take a hooded pullover sweatshirt.

I think in the winter when it may rain I'll want to just snuggle into my casual clothes some of the time.

Hooded sweaters are very much in vogue this season. Not the heavy cotton "college" type ones, but those of the knitted/wool/silk persuasion.

I'd like to recommend a charcoal bias cut ribbed hooded sweater from Miu Miu at 155GBP, or if you prefer something more colourful then Missoni offers the same shape garment in a unique patter for 470GBP. Both are made in Italy, and are - as expected - of high quality. Team with jeans from Helmut Lang (Italian made again) priced from 115GBP. With Missoni, I'd recommend Dolce e Gabbana's jeans.

Now just concentrating on jeans.. Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche offer two styles, one is a plain dark jean with no distressing suited to more conservative dressers - 125GBP. They also have a faded pair, with some hand distressing which are less classic and more fun, these are priced at 225GBP. John Galliano has jeans for younger men priced at 235GBP which have a double leg construction.

For women... Dolce e Gabbana if you've dark hair and are of Victoria Beckham persuasion. Moschino goes with cerise noire painted nails and equally dark skin and lipsticks.... I could continue, but I'll save that for another time.

Well, thank you for the tips m_kingdom2.

I am more of a blonde woman and I just Googled Victoria Beckham (she didn't seem to mind) and I am not that type either.

I'll look at the D&G jeans, any more tips?

Did you know that miu miu was once a mime?

I live all winter in my black cashmere zip front hoodie. It is of the finest quality, but I bought it at the end of winter a few years ago on sale for an unbelievable US$40. (Originally close to $200, if I remember correctly.)

Some people love to spend extravagantly; others love the thrill of the hunt.
