Leather goods in Florence
Is the Santa Croce area still the best place to shop?
No need for designer labels, just want good quality stuff that was actually made in Italy. |

I had a leather trench made at a little shop in Santa Croce 25 years ago* and it is still in service! Don't recall the name but it was a working tailor shop - I even got to pick the hide used. Went back for two fittings and picked it up at the end of the week.
Can't claim to be an expert, was referred to the place by a friend. Would never buy at market stall or one of those three feet wide storefronts. Google Florence leather scams to find things like http://girlinflorence.com/2015/03/18...mart-in-italy/ (*Yes, I know it is incredible that I was able to travel internationally at age 5. Call me precocious. ) |
We were in Florence over Christmas holiday and were oquite surprised at the low quality of the leather goods at the shops along Santa Croce. It was really difficult to find leather goods actually made in Italy, so I actually went up buying a furlough bag, and my husband bought a wallet and a belt of unknown origin. We actually spent more money on nice one goods – a couple of sweaters, a scarf and a lovely merino wool pull over.

Arghhhhhhh must learn to edit before posting. A Furla bag not furlough

Try the leather school. The leather goods in the gift shop are made there. My husband purchased a beautiful jacket last year.

I second the Leather School. Its located in the Santa Croce Basilica. I bought several items there. All well made

Are the leather school – depending on what you're looking for it can be a great resource. I don't remember seeing much clothing there but I wasn't looking for jackets either.
