Hello,

I will be in Rome in October and I am looking for any place that might sell nice leather jackets. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

If you are into the fashion brands, go to Via Condotti, Via Frattina, Via del Babuino, Piazza di Spagna, Via del Corso, Via del Gambero, Via Nazionale. Very expensive leather goods.

If you are looking for good leather but not fashion names (like Dolce e Gabbana, Armani etc) go either to Via Cola di Rienzo, Via Tuscolana, and Via Appia. These are loooong shopping streets where you can find leather jackets too (apart from lots of other stuff).
Also, check department stores like Coin (on Piazza San GIovanni), Rinascente (one on Piazza Fiume and one near Piazza Colonna).

You can find leather goods also at the Via Sannio Market, near Piazza San GIovanni. It's held every day apart from Sunday if I remember well. Just follow the flow of people that go to the Via Sannio market every day. Less espensive stuff.

I too am interested in finding a leather jacket in Italy and will be in Rome and in Florence. Not interested in the big names but in a good quality jacket. I've seen posts that state they found a shop with "good prices" but this is subjective and I have no idea what "good prices" means to those people.

Do you have any idea of an approximate price or price range for a good quality leather jacket? Do Coin and Rinascente carry a good selection? I'm a bit wary of shopping markets.

I personally shop at COMBIPEL, where I can find lots of good stuff, not only leather but also coats, shoes, purses. I am against furs, but Combipel also sells fur coats etc. They also have men and children clothings, so I can recommend Combipel.

Here are some addresses for some Combipel shops in Rome and FLorence for you and have a look at their website, where you can have an idea of their styles, but consider that in their stores thay have lots and lots and lots of other things. I always feel like a child in a toy store when I go there ;-)

I don't know about Coin and Rinascente prices but expect to pay for a leather jacket at least from 100 euros up.

ANother shop that I like is SASCH, but it's not exclusively leather, even if you can find leather goods. It's a very trendy clothing line very popular and loved by Italians, so try that!

In Rome there is a Sasch shop at Termini Forum (metro station Termini)and one in Piazzale Flaminio 13/15 (metro station Flaminio).

In Florence there Sasch is on Via Porta Rossa 34-36

Check also Termini Forum, there are LOTS of good stores there like Benetton, Etam, Sisley etc... you might find something there too!

In 2001 while walking more or less the beginning of Via del Corso I stumbled on Gazelle at #30. They have a huge selection of leather jackets at reasonable prices. I believe they have a factory so that's why they can offer good prices. The woman (possibly the owner) is very helpful and they can alter the item for you. The jacket I have was lots cheaper than the prices at the stores here in the US. Also the leather is of a higher quality than the hard leather goods they import from China and other parts.

Luisah - Two fantastic places I found for leather in Florence are NOI (on Via Terme) and the Firenze Leather School (right behind Santa Croce). Amazing quality and well priced for what it is but definitely not cheap, expect to pay several hundred dollars for a coat. This was out of my price range but I got a beautiful purse for 100 euros (and they had some for less) and a little change purse for my sister for 15 euros (the softest leather I've ever touched!).

I add my thanks to all the responders. Now I have a list of addresses. I do expect to pay more than 100 euros for a nice jacket and may, like Audreyleigh, come home with a beautiful leather purse, depending upon how much over 100 a good coat costs. Definitely want the soft Italian leather, not the hard Chinese leather (what do they use?)

Thanks for the web site Batuffolina, it's a fun site and I will definitely look for this store. I might be able to do most of my shopping in one place. I'm going to look for Sasch too, that sounds interesting, especially the part about it being popular with Italians. Sounds like a good place to shop for stylish family gifts since Christmas won't be that far off.
