Learning a few French words
 

Is there a website that I could learn the pronouciation of a few French words. I have found the English to French dictionary online, but would love to hear the correct pronounciation of several words. thanks

This site is awesome if you are looking for phrases in any langauge. Click on the mp3 downloads and will take you to a page in which you choose the langauge you want and then it has phrases divided into use areas and you can listen to the correct pronunciation. I have downloaded these to my Ipod and have printed out the word sheets. This came from one of the other posters several months ago and I love it.

There is a series of language CDs called "Rush Hour Express." They have them in French, Italian, Spanish, etc. I found mine at Barnes & Noble.

It's totally musical and each language has the same plot line...a guy meets a girl who speaks the language you're trying to learn, so he wants to learn it, too. It is very cheesy BUT music has a tendency to stick with you. Whenever I would get to a restaurant, I could hear that corny "Table for Two" song in my head and it all came back to me. Give the CD a try.

Thank you (bcirish) from the bottom of my heart. I am already praticing French. When I have thankful greetings prepared, I am meeting with a student who majored in French, to make sure I am properly pronouciating. I am an American looking forward to my trip to France and want to appreciate my experiences as best as my intelect permits. (I must next work on my Danish and Swedish as that is where my ancestors came from) thank you

I don't at all mean to be discouraging, but French pronunciation is extremely demanding -- so much so that I don't think it's learnable without personal feedback. Those vowels are ta-ricky -- and if mispronounced even slightly, you can end up saying something quite different than what you intend to say!

Just my opinion, though -- if you have an unusually sensitive ear and a gift for languages, you may be fine!

I need to learn to show my appreciation in words like: thank you, please , nice, and some special greetings. I really want to try my best. Our Earth is so large in small things but yet so small in large things. Jane
