Leaning Tower of Pisa
Hi, I am travelling to the tower on 18th May and will like to know which train station I need to alight at. I will be coming from Riomaggiore and do I alight at Pisa Centrale? I read there is another train station that is nearer to the tower.
And also, if I have already purchased the train tickets from Trenitalia, how can I change the arrival or departure stations if I got it wrong? Can I do it at any of the train stations? I tried calling up but the number on the website is incomplete as I am from overseas. Appreciate anyone's help and guidance! Thanks in advance! |
Hi Neoyl,
As far as I know you have tickets to the correct station. It will take you about 20 - 30 minutes to walk from the station to the Piazza. If you want to take a taxi, call for one in advance. They are not waiting at the station. Buon viagigo! |
When we went to the Tower we got off the train at Pisa Centrale; contrary to the above, there were all kinds of taxis waiting outside and you can also take a bus to the site.
There was a sign for both busses and taxis to the Tower posted PROMINENTLY at the exit of the station. |
yes, i've always seen taxis outside pisa centrale station as well. but the bus is honestly pretty easy. i can't remember off the top of my head what bus number you need, but there's a tourist info place by the station.

If you're up to it, walk. You'll discover a less touristy Pisa on the way. It's really a very charming town.
Also, on your train ride you get to see the great white cliffs of Carrera marble. It's quite the sight! |
Interesting! We waited at the station at the taxi stop for about 20 minutes and not a single taxi in that time! I guess if you don't see any waiting - call, don't wait a long time.

Thanks so much for all the replies. I have also searched and found some other threads on this same issue. Guess Centrale is the better station with bag-drop services that we need.
BTW, what is the weather like in Italy now? I'm coming from Singapore(Asia) and we have an all year round hot and humid climate. I've been to France and Spain 2 years ago around May too and both countries have contrasting temperatures, with France cold and Spain warm. Need to know if warm clothing is required. Checking the weather forecasts online it seems that the weather around Italy is cold in morning around 12°-18° and afternoon is around 22°-28°. |
