"Leaning Tower" image in Piazza San Marco

An update from VeniceWord.com

NEWS. The restoration work on the Clock Tower in St. Mark's Square is continuing, and the photographic "provocations" are continuing, too. As we reported last October, the scaffolding around the Clock Tower was draped with the image of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Now, six months later, there's a photograph of another famous tower: the Eiffel. And quite an eyeful it is. It's the second phase of the project by the restoration firm, which wanted to offer onlookers something more attractive that the standard screening that covers most scaffolding. As part of the
theme, the next photographs will feature London's Big Ben and New York's Empire State Building.

I was in Venice in August 2002 and the clock tower was covered by scaffolding and a screen... it was still covered in June 2004. WHAT could be taking so long, I wonder!

They're on an Italian time table.

I liked the decorated coverings in Venice. In many of my pictures you have to look fairly closely to realize that you are seeing a picture, rather than a building.

I wonder if its required by law, or just the Venetian way?

My daughters and I couldn't help but wonder whether any tourists went home to exclaim that the leaning tower is really in Venice!
