Marko:

Le Violon d'Ingres
135, Rue Saint-Dominique
Paris 7th (metro: Ecole Militaire)
Tel. 01 45 55 15 05
Fax 01 45 55 48 42
I think, it's pretty expensive and you will need to book weeks ahead, especially for dinner. Apparently, "there are too many English speakers now" and "prices are little high now" (according to Zagat guide).
www.zagat.com
LOVE it, been there twice, last time about 16 months ago
Reserve very far in advance.
Creative and delicious food, warm welcome. Decor fairly simple but elegant.
When I have been there the clientele has been a mix of French and Eng. speakers. Dine later (8:30 or later) for a more mixed crowd.
If you've never ordered a cheese course in a restaurant, or even if you have, this is a good place to try it.
The cheese waiter will be very helpful, will serve small portions if you wish to leave room for a dessert.
Good wines also available by the glass if you don't want a full bottle, or if you want to have both red and white.
Last time I was there it cost about 1400 FF for two, the equivalent then of over $220 US. Of course a bottle of wine would have made it more.
It is my favorite restaurant since we ate there the first time in November 2000.Friends have gone there recently and said the interiors have been changed, and there was a problem with a smoker, but the food and service were wonderful still.
We went with another couple, the last time there- the rooms were lovely, they brought us a small taste (amusement) that was pate on toast with soup that had foi gras in it.
I had sauteed wild cepes,a partridge on planche and for dessert chocolate tarte with an apple in chocolate sauce.Swooon~This is from the last visit, I do not remember the meals in such detail from the first visits:)

I've heard wonderful things about this restaurant and have a reservation for dinner in May. I made the reservation through Reservethebest.com. I used this web sight to reserve at other Paris restaurants as well. It's very easy to use and you get an email response with 24-48 hours. This is the first time I've ever used this site, so I can only keep my fingers crossed that there won't be any problems!
