Hi mb,
>If you arrive between the times of lunch and dinner, can you still get a drink?
Call ahead and ask.
If LTB is too pricey, do you have a budget figure we could work with?
Or, if it is great food you are after, the are some VG 2&3* places.

We have eaten there 3 times, two dinner, one lunch. We've gone the most expensive menu (2/3 a hit, 1/3 somewhat disappointed) to the mid-range menu (mostly good, some great, none bad) and a la carte/special of the day (all a hit). I'm a fan of foie gras, and their "house" foie gras was rather bland imo. The leg of lamb and pommes dauphines cut and served table side was not only impressive, but absolutely delicious, and their tarte aux pommes (which I'm not normally a fan of) was fantastic.
Good to Very good food in exceptional, historic surroundings with Excellent to Good Service, but late at night can get patchy as things wind down, so we prefer lunches.
On a really tight budget, a drink will do, but I prefer the real experience of being in that lovely, overwhelming room if given the option.
