Le Sirenuse or Santa Caterina?

I am planning to visit the Amalfi coast for five days in mid-August and have reservations at both the Le Sirenuse in Positano and the Santa Caterina in Amalfi and am having trouble deciding between the two. Any suggestion?!!

Neither. I would suggest that you stretch your stay to 7 days (ensuring that you arrive on a Saturday) and rent a villa. You'll save a fortune and have a much more relaxing time. We did this just a few weeks ago as part of our honeymoon trip and loved it.

we just returned from 6 days on the amalfi coast. there were six of us traveling and we stayed in Sorrento. we did, however, have lunch on the terrace at the Sirenuse and it was the most gorgeous place i saw. the view is amazing and the hotel itself is beautiful.amalfi is more historic and maybe less touristy, but positano is the place.

Sirenuse and Santa Caterina are often included on lists of the the world's best hotels, so I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. Sirenuse is right in town, which gives you the option to walk to restaurants, shops, beach, etc. Santa Caterina, as I remember, is just outside Amalfi, so more of a walk in to town, and not as convenient.

For great descriptions of rooms at Le Sirenuse, check previous posts by GRINISA and WANDERING TEXAN, both of whom describe the rooms in excellent detail.

Good luck with your choice!

I've stayed at both, I'd recommend the Santa Caterina over Le Sirenuse simply because I prefer the position. Both are super hotels, have you thought about staying on Capri instead?

I've still not made up my mind, but thanks for all the suggestions. Just one more question, though, as they are both expensive hotels -- which one do you think is better value for your money?

They're similar prices, what's good value? You won't be disappointed with either, if you'd really like a perfect if slightly inconvenient solution... stay three nights at one and two at the other, or just pick one, take the plunge!
