Le Moulin de la Gilette
Has anyone eaten at this restaurant , derives from a Renoir painting? It is at Montmarte but how to arrive at the restaurant? Thomas

The restaurant is in Paris.

It might be a close shave, but if you go up rue Lepic from metro Blanche you will find the old windmill by going to the right. I don't think there is a restaurant operating there anymore.

The Moulin de la Galette is at 83 rue Lepic in Montmartre. The closest métro is Abbesses. You can't miss it - it's a windmill.
I haven't eaten there, but I've had some lovely meals at La Maison Fournaise on the Ile des Impressionistes just outside Paris, where Renoir painted "Luncheon of the Boating Party" and where there's a small museum. |
Thank you. It has a website with lots of info and photos. Hopefully it is the one referred to in Renoir's painting. And yes it is on rue Lepic or at least near it. If it is there I will check it out in July while in Paris.

StCinq. I too have eaten at the restaurant Fournaise. It seems unbelievable to me to be sitting on the balcony where the painting was done. I plan to be there in July. Thomas

Yes, it's the one from the Renoir's painting. You really can't miss the windmill; it's a Montmartre landmark.

Of course, you shouldn't forget that the current version was built in 1978. All of the historic stuff was destroyed. (The original closed down in 1966 and fell into ruin.)

I'm trying to read the book a fictionalized account, by Susan Vreeland, Luncheon of the Boating Party. The website shows some photos of the old fallen apart restaurant. Today, the place is quiet beautiful and well worth a visit, about 30 minutes on the RER out of Paris. Thomas

We ate lunch there last week. The prix fixe was either pork or fish. The starter was a tomato cheese salad and the desert was a citris mousse. You could get a bottle of house wine for 10 Euros. It was a nice lunch. I wish we had gone in better weather because the patio looks like a really nice place to enjoy a meal. It is quite small so in high season you would need a reservation.
