Le Marais (Paris)
I'm planning my 9th trip (solo)to Paris for late March.
My first trip I stayed near the Opera Garnier, and all the others I've stayed in St Germain des Pres. I'm staying at the Caron de Beaumarchais hotel on rue Vieille du Temple. Can anyone recommend some nearby cafes for breakfast, and moderately priced bistros for lunch/dinner (40-50 euros)? Also, looking for bars/clubs that will be mixed or straight(not all gay, I'm straight and it would be nice to mingle/flirt with Frenchmen knowing it's not a lost cause, thanks). I can't wait to explore this area of Paris! liz |
Liz, I'll be there in February at the same hotel. I have a huge list of nearby places and some I have been to before like the oldest wine bar named Tartine that serves those open sandwiches and I got lots of help from bonjourparis, egullet, and travelerstogo.

luveurop, shop till you drop in the Marais! It's absolutely wonderful. Here's a link to my favourite place for gorgeous french shirts.
http://www.mcdougalladventures.com/france/paris-rayure Wander up Rue des Francs-Bourgeois and the side streets and you won't be disappointed! |
cigalechanta: Would you please email your list at [email protected], thanks.
luckykat: Thanks for the tip. liz |
Cigalechanta, I too would appreciate a copy of your list for my May trip to Paris!
[email protected] Thanks! |
La Baracane on the eastern edge of the Marais is a fabulous restaurant. Casual but really excellent food.
A very cool place is Cafe Beauborg. Lunch and cocktail time are busy with a very interesting looking group of people. |
julie, your email was invalid???

Les Marronniers on the rue des Archives has great hot chocolate.

Anyone else?
Thanks all. liz |
Liz, we stayed on Rue St Paul in Marais last year and enjoyed very much the wine bar Le Gorge Rouge. It has a bar area and a restaurant area. The bar area would be great for a single person for wine and a light meal. The wine selection was unique and the food also. The street is fun for window shopping with several antique and other shops on the street and in the "village St Paul" courtyards just to the west. Also the English language book store The Red Wagon with lots of books about or set in Paris and France. Enjoy your trip!
