Le Marais Hotels
I am planning trip to Paris at end of April 05. Want to stay in the Le Marais area and am considering Hotel du Vieux, 8 rue du Platre, or Hotel de la Place des Vosges, 12 rue de Birague. Cannot decide between them and wonder if anyone can give me their opinions on either hotel?

Hi
if you go to the top of this screen and click on 'Hotels' you will get to listings for both of these hotels, including guest comments. (Alphabetically they come up under 'H' for 'Hotel') you can also check www.tripadvisor.com |
Hi TOMI
I love the area of the Place des Vosges and think it would be great to stay there. I do not have first hand knowledge of the hotels, but my notes that I have made and kept over the years say that the Hotel de la Place des Vosges, is a cozy hotel. My son will be in Paris in the Marais in March. He still hasn't decided on his hotel either:) Good luck~ |
Hi Tom, were there any comments for these hotels at tripadvisor.com? The Marais is a great area, wonderful boutiques, museums and cafes - you'll have a great time!

hmm, sorry for the double post, I tried to stop it from posting in time to fix a spelling error and it didn't work!

I actually stayed at the Bretonnerie in the Marais and it was great. The staff was really nice and always gave great suggestions on where to eat, etc. I actually left a new pair of shoes there and they sent them to me (of coursze I paid for it). I would stay there again.

I second the Bretonnerie. I have stayed there 4 separate occassions and I think that my friend nmay up to six. A very good value, great location. I take my pain et chocolat chaud in my room (instead of in the basement breakfast room). it is delivered on a silver tray and I use that time to plan out my day. They are very helpful with restaurant reservations and even arranged a babysitter the one time I traveled with my daughter (who did not join us at Taillevant for dinner!).

If you want to go all out (that reads as "spend a lot of money") and stay AT the Place itself then check out Pavillon de la Reine,. If not, I agree that the Bret. would be a nice alternative.

I recommend the Hotel Castex. Good location near Bastille. Quiet and just remodeled. Air conditioned. Good staff. It was about 120 Euros last time I was there. Enjoy Paris.

TOMI,
I think you may be referring to the Hotel Vieux Marais on Rue du Platre. I personally thought it was a clean but dumpy and dark place. I had a larger front room and it was still very dark even in the mornings. Good location though. |
I don't know the hotels you mentioned so I am not sure of your price range. We just got back day before yesterday and we stayed at a great little two star in the Maurais called Andrea Rivoli. It is one block from Hotel De Ville and about four blocks from Notre Dame. It was clean and convenient. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel so I can't comment on that. A double was 84 Euros a night. I think a continental breakfast was another 7.

My 70 year old in-laws just stayed at the Bretonnerie for 12 nights and loved it. They said the staff was very friendly, and their room charming and of a decent size.
