thank you for posting this. I'll be in NYC over the Labor Day weekend in early September. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they will be open by then!

It would have been very, very nice, indeed, if the New York Times had not presented it as if Eataly NYC were purely a New York creation by New Yorker Batali and New Yorker Bastianich.

Oscar Farinetti, the Italian non-New Yorker who created the original Eataly in Turin, is a partner in the enterprise, together with another non-New Yorker Italian.

But Zerlina, the article says, in the second sentence, "patterned after the original in Turin." It looks as if Farinetti has teamed up with B&B Hospitality, owned by Batali and Bastianich.

My guess is that the prices will be astronomical.

"Patterned after" - as if Farinetti and the other Italian were not involved and B&B were the sole guiding lights behind Eataly NYC.

The earlier piece is accurate; the one from yesterday is not.

I don't know when Eataly in Turin opened, but it was more than two years ago; the present online-order Web site has been copyright since 2005.

Prices will be astronomical, but they're not exactly low in Turin. What concerns me more is what I see as a bastardization - a Batalization and Bastianichization, if you will - of the concept. Eataly in Turin is not chef-oriented; bread is from an artisanal producer, not "overseen" by a celebrity baker-chef from LA (whose version of pizza, incidentally, is the height of absurdity).

ekscrunchy -- I know this is an older report, but I am planning a trip to the Piemonte in April (hope we have better luck with the weather LOL), and I can't tell you how helpful your information has been. Eks, I have gone to a few places based on your trip reports. 2 years ago we went to Matera and Puglia after I read your TR from a few years previous and knew I had to go to those places.

We have been to Camogli before, stayed at Villa Rosmarino and thinking of trying Hotel Cenobio Dei Dogi this trip. Also have booked in Turin at Townhouse 70 and excited to check Turin for wonderful food and movie museum. Need to,figure out the last 3-4 nights of our Italy trip. Maybe Ischia, Umbria or go back to Rome. We will be in Paris for a week before Italy leg of trip and need to end up in a place that we can get to a largish airport to start trek back to California.

Hi! Finally had time to begin your great TR. Some places I checked are still around others with dead links. What was weird was the names of many posters long gone. Sadly Bobthenavigator recently passed away, others have disappeared. Anyway, I will make my way through your TR and I'm sure end up of in some of the same restaurants. I have never eaten at a place you recommend that wasnt great. So as always, thanks so much for doing this TR oh so long ago. (We may go to Mexico again this winter and I will dig out all your recs from a TR you did for Mexico.
