Le Havre, France

How do you pronounce this? With a "re" at the end or without?

However you pronounce it, one of the least appealing cities in Europe - all bombed out in war and tackily rebuilt.

I know my 89 y.o. father said when they landed there in 1944, the American pronunciation was Le "Harve", sort of the same way we pronounce the football player's name Brett "Farve" even tho it's spelled Favre. I will let the Francophiles set you straight, but what I would suggest pronouncing it FAHVr, w/ a very muted r at the end.

The H is silent; so it's basically AH with a bit of an R at the end. Someone else will no doubt explain this much, much better!
