Lazio, Castelli Romani, Castel Gandolfo Italy, need information
Perhaps someone can help me out with gathering information on
Lazio, Castelli Romani, Castel Gandolfo as I am not having much success finding specific travel info, tourist offices, maps, etc. on these areas. Any email contacts, or addresses would greatly help me plan for my May trip. Thanks, Aranda |
Google turns up many thousands of entries. Where have you been looking?

There is a lot of information on this forum; I know because I asked many questions within the last few months.
What kinds of e-mail contacts are you looking for? |
Why not use the Italian Government Tourist Board?

Thanks everyone for helping me clarify my question on information for the Castille Romani, Lazio region.
I did contact the Italian Government Tourist Board in NYC and was told that Lazio does not supply them with information. I have extracted historical information on this region, but I want to travel around there with more detailed specific info, such as: maps, connections between towns, attractions, must do/see things, markets, ATM machine locations, practical traveling info for someone that has never been in that area before and is traveling independently and is hoping for a smooth adventure. The only firm thing I know is that I will be staying in Castel Gandolfo, and I don't even know that much about that area. I thought I could contact the tourist boards of each town, or even of Lazio but I can not find the email or address. So, that's what I would really appreciate help with. Take care, Aranda |
Tourist Office:
Ufficio Turismo: Piazza della Libertà 7, tel. 069359181, fax: 06935918211 I don't know how much joy you will have of them; they have no English information on line. You can go to maps.google.com for a map. Every town has at least one ATM. Castel Gandolfo is not large; it should not be difficult to find the ATMs. The neighboring towns are Marino, Grottaferrata, Albano Laziale and Rocca di Papa. You can look for train connections at www.trenitalia.com. |
The link kybourbon provided you above is from the Italian Government Tourist Board and it's all about Lazio.
|
The postal code for Castel Gandolfo is 00040; you put it before the name of the town.

There is some info on this website (though watch out as the English version doesn't have the best translation):
http://www.prontocastelli.it/ I live in that area and my favourite places are Ariccia for the roast pork (go to a 'fraschetta' and you can eat and drink very cheaply) and Nemi for the wild strawberries. |
This info has been so helpful. I was starting to feel that maybe I picked the wrong location as it seems that the Castel Romani hills are not so tourist oriented.
Is "fraschetta" a word for restaurant? Or an open market perhaps? I'll follow through on all these suggstions. Thanks again. |
A fraschetta is a traditional eatery, akin to what we'd call a tavern in English. A ristorante is more formal.
