Robert, unfortunately, I think four hours is a bit tight for going anywhere, especially when you factor in the possibility of ground-transport holdups.

But Heathrow has some fantastic shopping -- Terminal Four has a good-sized mall with mini-Harrods, bookstores, museum shop, and much more. I'd do some shopping!

Robert

Why not go to the Queens building viewing platform between terminal 1 and 2. It is a free train ride from T4.

You can have a good look at the airport and if it is the right time of day see Concorde take off. Better than being stuck inside

Im in a similar situation, except that I will be at GATWICK for about 4 - 4.5 hours. I apprecaite any input on things to do at Gatwick too! Thanks!

My husband and I have flown out of Heathrow a couple of times in the last two years, and since I like to be at the airport early, we have tended to have lots of time to kill. I don't remember which terminal we were in (United Airlines and Virgin Atlantic fly from it), but we really enjoyed eating at a pub in the terminal called Shakespeare's Pub. It was quite a bit cheaper than the TGI Friday's nearby. It feels authentic British Pub.

I have to second MG. Four hours is really not very much. I would not risk it going anywhere. If you like bookshops just linger around those. Then do some duty free shopping and have a pint and lunch in some of the restaurants. (There is one that serves nice Italian food.) And after you have done all that time your four hours are history.
