Layover in Frankfurt for 8 hours

I'll be stopping over in Frankfurt on my way to Berlin and will have approx. 8 hours to spare. Thoughts on ways to entertain myself? I've been to Frankfurt before but was there on business so really didn't get to see much except on my way to/from meetings! Thank you, as always, for your advice.

Heidelburg is just about an hour by train from Frankfurt Airport, with a change in Mannheim, but you don't need to get into Frankfurt center.

Very frequent trains.

Problem with doing this is that I'll have been flying for 8 hours already and will need to get on another plane and fly for an hour. The thought of travelling, yet again, doesn't really appeal to me. Anything in Frankfurt proper?

I've only passed through Frankfurt airport and never been in the city proper. Did you try to look at the miniguides, for example, this link?

A standard recommendation is the Rhine area, but you don't want to travel any further. In any case, this is probably the off season for that area anyway.

Any personal recommendations???

ttt for michelle -- Frankfurt experts?

Thank you 111op. I was thinking that I would just go to the main shopping area. There is a big square but I can't remember the name. Also, there is a really good department store in the square -- it starts with an "H" I believe. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

We had 6 hours in Frankfurt at the end of August which I hadn't appreciated until just before we travelled.
We took the train into the centre of Frankfurt and walked around the old town centre had a few beers and then had a meal. It was a very pleasant way of passing some hours.
On the way back we only had about 4 hours and decided to stay put as we were tired. It is not a good airport for chairs to sleep in and neither do the gates open until just before boarding. We failed to find any comfortable chairs- so don't spend your 8 hours in the airport!

Oh gosh, no! I would never spend that much time in an airport when the city is so close by -- well, maybe except for Schipol in Amsterdam, great shopping!
