layover in Frankfurt

I have a 16 hour layover in Frankfurt. I want to visit a city in that time by train. I have thought of Trier, Luxembourg, Cologne or Frankfurt. Any suggestions and any info on train travel times?

Thanks for the help

Plug in your destinations in DBahn site; it is easy to use.

As greg says, which 16 hours?

Don't discount Frankfurt itself; there's a great walking tour Frankfurt on Foot. http://www.frankfurtonfoot.com/

I took the train to Luxembourg when I was based in Frankfurt- you can't go direct, must take a bus- total I think it was 3 hours? Wouldn't be my recommendation.

Why not stay in Frankfurt? There's the walking tour, a nice river to walk along (depends on time of year) and some nice shopping.

Check out Mainz. It's less than an hour away by train, which you can catch in the airport. Good restaurants (try Heiliggeist--go early), Roman ruins, Chagall stained glass windows, fantastic market (not sure which day), beautiful views of the Rhine. Wishing I were there right now.
