LAYOVER AT MADRID AIRPORT

We will be at the Madrid airport for 9 hours on a Tuesday next June (2016). We arrive at 2:20 pm and leave at about 11:00 pm. Is there time to get into Madrid and visit the Prado? Any suggestions about transport? Thank you!

Yes -- the Metro would be your fastest option but you have masses of time. The Prado is open til 8PM

Just got back from Madrid a few weeks ago and stayed at the Westin Palace Hotel which is across the street from the Prado Museum.

My ride from the Airport to the Palace Hotel took less than a half hour.

So like janisj said, yep, you have lots of time.

Like all major museum you will get a map outlining where various period painting are and you can go to the ones that interest you most.

For example

The Goya Collection and the Valezquez Collection are the highlites of the Spanish painters but they are on different floors.

Taxi from the airport to Prado (and all of central Madrid) is flat 30€ and would normally be some 20-25 minutes.

Percy, I was at the same Hotel on June 1,2 and 3rd.

To the OP. Traffic was bad on my way to the airport but it still only took about 45 minutes.

MathaT:

I was there also on June 2 to June 6th.

Was that you that stepped on my foot.

Nice hotel isn't it. ! Walking distance to almost every major place.

I got in at 2 PM and I think it took about 25 minutes to get to the Hotel.

No Percy I don't remember stepping on anyones foot!! Staying in that hotel made me feel like a celebrity. Great hotel. Only thing that bothered me was when you turned out the lights at night there was a green light on the back of the TV that lit up the wall behind it.
I did love the close access to all the museums.

Yes MarthaT

The nicest hotel in Madrid.

Superb breakfast buffet under the stained glass dome.

To top it off our room faced the Neptune Fountain.!!

No we never had any green light after the Tv was off.
Had a great time...saw all I wanted and more.
