LAX to Paris in late May for $650!!!
I am sooo excited and still can't believe I was able to get tickets for that price. I did a search on Kayak and it directed me to book them through Orbitz.
The only dates that price was available was for May 22- June 3rd, if anyone is interested. I'm looking for an apartment right now and was wondering if we will need air conditioning. Does anyone know if this area is safe area? http://www.rentapart.com/en/paris/apartments/detail/98/ Has anyone rented from rentapart.com that can share their experience? Thanks :) Mariana |
Very safe. Perfectly safe.

Hi Mariana,
Did the $650 included all the taxes and fees? Just curious as I couldn't bring it up. |
Be sure you get air conditioning, just in case. Most recent years in Paris have been extremely warm, or worse, and roughing it without A/C may ruin your vacation if the weather turns hot.

Yes, the price included tax. I just searched Kayak and the airfare is still coming up. Thanks for the tip Anthony :) |
Well, first of all, anywhere in Paris will be much safer than any city in the US, for example (they don't sell guns freely, it helps). As for your rental agency, I never went through them, but a friend of mine told me about a new website, where you can watch videos of apartments and hotel rooms, and I always found that a video lie less than photoshoped photos ;)

Ooops, forgot the link: www.myvideoplanet.com

Ah, if only this were true. If you mean to say that you have less likelihood of being murdered, then you would be correct, but I think most folks would include probability of theft and other crimes in assessing their "safety", and what few comparitive statistics I can find suggest that the overall crime rates in France (or the rest of Western Europe) are not largely dissimilar from those in the US. And, indeed, to put this into perspective, one has about a 0.006% chance of being murdered in the US each year. With such a low probability of being murdered, I find it extraordinarily unhelpful to offer to a casual tourist that an incidence of say 0.003% would make them appreciably safer. Of course, this doesn't mean that France is some sort of lawless wasteland but, rather, that one should follow the same precautions they would when traveling within the US. And, I hope that someone with a bit more knowledge can offer a useful answer to the question of this neighborhood's safety. |
I like the area, and don't worry about a/c you will survive without it as you are not going to be there when it MAY ( hey, I had 9 days of cold and rain in August last year) get too hot, but rather in May and early June where a heat wave would be unusaul. Hopefully you will just get nice early summer late spring weather .
It is in a great area. |
I've seen temperatures above 100 in some years in May. Get the air conditioning. Why ruin the vacation just because you neglected to get A/C?

Get the air conditioning. We were there in late May / early June in 2005 and it was HOT. My daughter was living in an apartment that was not air conditioned, and it was miserable.
