LAX-LHR (Essentials on the Plane)
I am flying out to London with British Airways and would like to know what are the essentials I should have with me on my carry on? Can one get comfortable at all in Economy Class?
|
Hi L,
>..what are the essentials I should have with me on my carry on? Whatever you need for a day, in case your luggage goes astray. >Can one get comfortable at all in Economy Class? Sure. ((I)) |
it depends!
My 6'3 DH is never comfortable in the EC. |
One of my flying tips - have a spare plastic bag, to take all the junk out of the seat pocket and throw it into an overhead bin. Who the hell needs blankets on a daytime flights?
|
Besides obvious passport, money and travel docs...stuff to read, earplugs, gummi bears, ziplock bag of 3oz toiletries and one change of clothes. You cannot really get comfortable in Economy, so upgrade if you can.
|
British Air does an excellent job of attempting to make people as comfortable as possible. That said their seats are among the smallest in the skies.
On my flights, they have always given out a packet with slippers, eyeshade, toothbrush/paste, etc. They have seatback individual screens that show movies continuously. Headphones and drinks are free. The food is decent. For your own carry-on I'd think mostly of entertainment. A paperback novel, magazines, crosswords, whatever helps you to pass the time. Any medication you might want for on the flight. |

For goodness sake, it only ten or so hours, not a week. Relax, have a free drink, eat your meal, have a drink, watch a movie, have a drink. In no time you will be sound asleep waking up as you taxi to your terminal. Have a good flight.
|
I agree with rodger on this one. It will be over soon and then you'll go have fun. Bring along EarPlanes for take off and landings. They are earplugs made for airtravel. A little packet of Eneregie C to take in the morning helps to keep you perky all day. Don't forget a good novel.
|
upgrade to premium economy if you can!! Take 1 day of clothes, toiletries, reading material and junk food. Drink and sleep
|
I cannot sleep on a plane myself, never have, not once. But I do find it helpful to put on the eyeshades, put quiet music on the headphones, and lay back and take a "nap". Even if you don't sleep it can pass a few hours and help you feel refreshed.
One other thing in my carry-on is always an extra change of clothes (perhaps not a full set but a fresh shirt, socks, undies) in case your checked luggage gets delayed. |
BA carry-on luggage is only size restriction. So long as the dimentions meet the requirement, no weight limit.
Just a reminder that you're allowed ONLY ONE carry-on for the RETURN trip. And the purse/handbag will count as one piece of luggage. |
Are you sure British Air does not have a weight limit for carry-on?
|
No longer any weight limit...just 1 bag of a certain size..which I can;t remember right now. It changed about a month ago
|
what are the allowed measurements?
Is there a web site? Please help, flying BA next months. |
sure there is: www.britishairways.com

thanks !

Sherm 99 and Gardy loo pretty much nailed it.
Go to BA's web site, spend an hour or two playing with what's available. Get the economy+ if you can, if only for the leg room. Check where your seats are and make sure they're good ones. Go to www.seatguru.com to check that out. Pretty cool site. If BA lets you choose the seat online, keep viewing onling and see if you can find a better seat. The closer you get to your flight the more the seat availability changes, as Premier passengers are upgraded. Rogerdodger says it's "only", but you will be arriving at Heathrow early in the morning. Some sleep is better than bad sleep...and it is the start of your holiday. Make it a good start. |
What on earth are gummi bears ??
My only essential is plenty of reading material, since I never sleep or watch films on a flight. Plus any medicines I'm taking. Although I've sometimes also taken enough clothes & toiletries to see me through the first 24 hours, in case my checked-in luggage arrives later. |
