Will there be any color in the lavender fields late May? Where is best place to stay and visit in area? We will have a car.

Any wineries in lavender region?

Nope - very late June & July

>>Where is best place to stay and visit in area? We will have a car.<<

Many people like St Remy if you want to stay in a village with lots of cafes, restaurants, shops, other tourists. OR the Luberon (Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux) if you like pretty countryside & "cute little villages" close at hand.

>>Any wineries in lavender region?<<

Sure - but there will not be any lavender blooming in May. Lots of vineyards in the Luberon, & in the Cote du Rhone area on the western side of the Dentelles & in the Dentelles (mountains west of Vaison).

Do you have my 27 page Provence & Cote d'Azur itinerary? I've sent it to over 3,000 people on Fodors & AOL. e-mail me at [email protected] & I'll attach one to the reply e-mail.

No. Lavender in France blooms the same time it blooms in the USA - late summer.

There's no "best" place to stay. It depends on what your purpose for being there is and what you intend to visit.
