Lauterbrunnen & Lucerne area accommodation

hi,

just wondering if Schilthorn @ lauterbrunnen has accommodation like that of Hotel Pilatus-Kulm @ Mt Pilatus?

How about Mt Tiltis?

Thanks all! =)

The closest accommodation for Schilthorn will be in the village of Murren, which is a short cable car ride away. No hotel on the summit like at Pilatus.

Mt Titlis does have accommodation, but again not on top like the Hotel or Kulm on Pilatus. The excellent Berghotel Trübseeis halfway up, reach by the first set of gondolas, and looks out over the lake (See) that gives it its name - Trübsee - nearby. Stunning scenery, great hosts and a lovely hotel - can't go wrong really. Failing that, the accommodation choices in Engelberg are all good, and availability in Summer is often better than Winter.

Hi,
Thanks madam. the information sure helps alot!

by the way, is it possible. is it possible to do a day trip from lucerne to schilthorn?

thanks !

It's possible, but will take your whole day. The train trip from Luzern to Lauterbrunnen takes around 2.5hrs, with one change (at Interlaken Ost). Then from Lauterbrunnen station, walk across the road to the Murren rail which taks around 10mins up and from there walk 15mins through Murren to the cable car for Schilthorn which takes around 20mins up.

Coming back down, you can take the same route, or if you are staying in Lauterbrunnen, you could go down to Stechelberg, visit the Trummelbach Falls and stroll back to Lauterbrunnen or take the Postbus back. If you are still deciding, perhaps stay in Murren for 2 nights, soak in the valley as well as visit Schilthorn - it's a stunning part of the world.

Berghotel Trubsee is just gorgeous, you won't be disappointed. The train from Luzern station to Engelberg (village 10mins walk from base of Titlis) takes 1hr, so easy journey.

You'll need to make your way to the Mt Titlis base station for the gondola up to the hotel (ticket price included in accommodation, just co-ordinate details with the hotel when you book). The hotel is halfway (or thereabouts) up Titlis and overlooks the lake, so plenty of hiking around the area, and you can go back down to Engelberg by foot, crazy but fun scooter or on the gondola. If you want to go to the summit of Titlis, you'll need to pay the extra fare from the mid-point to the top - the hotel will advise on this.

A very nice hotel in Luzern is the Montana. It is on a hill above the lake. There is a funicular to the top (it is across the street from the Palace Hotel, the best hotel in Luzern), so you don't have to walk up the hill.

I wouldn't stay in Lauterbrunnen, personally, I would rather stay in car-free Murren or Wengen.

A good hotel in Wengen is the Schoenegg. The restaurant is excellent.

Take lots of photos (like you need reminding) as the views are just jaw-droppingly awesome from the Hotel! Hope you like it!

Hotel Montana is stunning, inside and out. Hotel des Balances, down on the River Russ side of the Chapel Bridge, is a beautiful hotel in the city. The Palace is old world glamour on the lake but I find Hotel Schweizerhof far more elegant.
