Lauterbrunnen
What is the weather like in early Jun? Coming from Hawaii and not used to cold weather 😬 long sleeves and light jacket enough for day hikes and sightseeing? Be prepared for chilly nights? |
Yes and be prepared for chilly days, especially as you likely will want to go to higher elevations from there. We were there last September and June weather can be similar in temperature but June can have a little more precipitation. I think we planned for high/low temps at 55/40 but thanks to sunshine we probably got a 5 degree boost.

Yes, yes.
https://weatherspark.com/m/56019/6/A...en-Switzerland But can be very variable - sun pops out temps go up - layering is great - sun goes under bring out another layer. |
Expect anything. We encountered an unexpected and very unwelcome heat wave in Switzerland in early June two years ago.
|
We were there in early June and had snow.

Bring a lightweight rain coat, the kind that is sold by Patagonia. It could be sunny or it could pour for 5 days. No one knows.
I usually stay at the Hotel Bellevue in Wengen. The hotel has a webcam. You can Google the hotel website for a view. Thin🇨🇭 |

Looks wunderbar to me...3 weeks to go :) |
I look forward to hearing all about your trip Adelaidean - four months to go for us.
|
Thanks for all the feedback.
|
Mel, going in September?? You will be converted! So much easier to walk than December. |
Adelaidean, I so hope you'll be writing a trip report! Your Germany trip report last year was wonderful as were the pictures. I like the way you travel.
|
DeeDee we were writing at the same time. .... will do, I love reading them, and sharing experiences. |
Yes, bring layers, order Heat Tech long sleeve baselayer from Uniqlo (far more reasonable than the base layers sold at REI and the like), bring a thin Merino wool sweater, and waterproof hooded shell. Patagonia has them, but so does Marmot at more reasonable prices including Columbia, shop Sierra Trading online for all this stuff (not Uniqlo). Kuhl or Northface pants are great, lots of pockets. Perhaps a down puffer vest or jacket (Uniqlo) to wear under the shell. Backpack for handsfree hiking.
|
Adelaidean - actually more of an October trip, we leave late September. Very edge of the season, which seems a good compromise for the likes of us.
|
I would try to plan for at least 4 days, so that you have a chance to get some sun. It's really glorious when the sun is out.
If you have the time, do a cruise to Brienz and then take the train back to Interlaken. You can combine it with a trip up to Harder Klum. Beatenburg is spectacular too but you have to take a boat or bus ride west to reach it. |
Mel, I’ll be in South Tirol with Mum then. Beautiful time of year. |
Adelaidean, two trips this year? OR, will you be on one long one from June through September? If a long one, I'm sooooo jealous! LOL!
|
I'm jealous either way!
|
2 trips, second one is short, though. Managed to get lots of leave this year, so pretty lucky. |
