Lausanne-Things To Do
 

I honestly don't want this to be one of those posts which probably SHOULD BE answered with, "Just get a guidebook" and am actually seeking suggestions.

We've been to Lausanne before and will be there for three nights in August 2010. One of the big reasons is to stay in and enjoy the Beau Rivage Palace hotel/spa which we like very much.

Will spend one day traveling to Luzern and Engelberg..already set.

We've been to Montreux, Chillon, Rochers de Naye, taken lake steamer trips, etc., etc.

I am wondering if we should simply spend a day, or at least part of a day, visiting places like Vevey or perhaps Morges which we've never "done" in any sort of "depth." I thought of taking the steamer over to Evian but not sure that's really "worth it."
Museums/something similar are certainly not out of the question, either.

Any suggestions appreciated and yes, I already have the guidebooks!!!

Yes, you took the words right out of my mouth: Morges and Vevey are both great options. If you'll be there on a Saturday, see the market in Vevey; if not, just take the so-called wine train up to Chexbres and walk down to the lake through the Lavaux vineyards. And Morges is great anytime -- I've heard that the promenade runs all the way to Lausanne, and I've been meaning to cycle it. That may be a fun way to spend a day.

If you don't mind going inland a bit, why not see Gruyeres, or take the Chocolate Train to Gruyeres and then Broc? Or maybe just go to Gstaad, one of my favorite places.

Sorry, forgot to add --

Or head to Yvoire, France (train to Nyon then the boat/bus). Yvoire is a small village absolutely drenched in flowers. There's not much to do there, just see the pretty flowers, the medieval stone architecture, shop in tourist shops, and have lunch. But it's very pretty.

And there is the Chocolate Train that goes from Lausanne up thru the vineyards first to Gruyeres, for a look over and visit to a cheese factory, then the vintage Pullman cars roll over to Broc Factory station, at a huge Nestle plant for a tour of the chocolate works. Wine and cheese tastings i believe en route.

GREAT suggestions...we have thought about the Gruyere/choc factory trip in the past but just not done it...for that matter, the last time we went up to Rochers de Naye the peak was cloud-enshrouded and we spent an hour in that crazy cafeteria with the stuffed animals staring down at us from the walls as we ate fondue and we were the ONLY customers in the whole place. That ride up is spectacular as you all know...the idea of traveling along the lake between Morges and Lausanne appeals as well..such a great spot.
