Laurel and Hardy in Drag Go To Paris

We have been planning this trip for over two years and now tomorrow is the day. The two of us are so excited we can hardly control ourselves. We are two friends that have decided to run away to Paris for two weeks. My friend is 62 (hereafter known as 62) and has never been to Europe and I am 66 (hereafter known as 66) and have been to France several times.

Several years ago I blogged every day for six weeks while in France. I try to write daily since I know I will never write a trip report when I get home. Also, it is a great way for family and friends to travel along with me and for me to remember what I have done.

We are already planning on meeting my new friend I met here on Fodors for drinks, Chanel tour, two operas, Giverny, flea market, Versailles, London for day and a day with Michael Orsman. I think that will keep us quite busy.

Oh, the reason for the title: I am quite tall and a rather large woman and 62 is a little shorter and quite thin. If you saw us, you would easily be reminded of Laurel and Hardy. So if you see two women that look like them, please stop us and say hello.

I love your title and your attitude! It sounds like you will be very busy. Looking forward to hearing more.

Thank you for all your lovely comments. I hope I don't disappoint you. My style of a report is writing about all the absurdities that seem to happen while traveling.

Well, I have finished packing. Oh how I hate deciding what to take. I was so committed to not overpacking on this trip. I edited and re-edited my choices several times. I think I have done quite a good job (for me anyway). My problem has been all the extras. At 66 I want my stuff. I want my shampoo, face wash, creams and all the required items to dot, dab, pat and slather my entire body. Not to mention, I have my daily medications as well as the extras to poop, stop pooping, stomach problems and everything in-between. Actually, I have enough extra medication to either kill or cure most minor problems for the entire Paris population. I have no idea why I do this. Yes, I know I am not traveling to a third world country but it makes me feel better. It's sort of a security blanket for me but my old teddy bear would take up less room and be a lot easier to pack.

My daughter and her boyfriend are taking 62 and me to Boston this afternoon. It should take two hours but when I get excited and nervous I have to pee every 20 minutes so may take us three hours. Better leave early. 62 says I should take my dog's rubber water bowl with us!

Your excitement is so palpable, I'm feeling it too!

Yup, when you want your stuff, you want your stuff! How I can relate to that. I never even go away for the weekend without my Pepto, Gravol, sea bands, cold medications (just in case), headache tablets, tape measure (?), sunscreen, and extra glasses and sunglasses, before I even get to the hair and face potions, never mind all the shoes and sandals.

Safe travels, looking forward to the fun and adventures!

Awesome! I wouldn't worry too much about needing anything in Paris. If you need something, contact Michael.....he will tell you exactly where to go to get it.

Have a fantastic adventure!!

Let the games begin! Sounds like this will be a 'hoot'.

I can tell, this is going to be a fun ride-along. So hoping you have as nice a time in Paris as my DH and I just did, on our 50th anniversary trip to Europe.

Think of me if you get a haircut! I'm letting my locks grow out now. Last haircut was near the end of March, in Lucerne! I thought of visiting the same Paris salon I visited two summers ago, and got a great (but very short) haircut. I walked by the place once, but did not venture inside for an appointment. (though I need shaping or something!)

Anyway, I'll be along for this trip, in spirit. Hoping you get to do the dinner boat that DH and I did. The ride was very nice and the food was quite tasty and plentiful.

Have a great time! Safe travels.
(looks like Maine is NOT on the October schedule, so not sure when we will meet up again)

Carol

We are at Logan. Have had three drinks apiece. Feeling great. 62 was shaken down - she had water in her bag. Had to go thru security three times. My only problem was I never signed my passport. We are quite the team. Now for the ambien and we are all set. Nighty nite,

Glad you are on your way. I find the week before departure too filled with anxiety to enjoy, and the constant indecision about what to pack.... Have culled much over previous trips, but still have full tubes/packs of things to unpack on getting home and wondering why I thought I needed them. :)

travelchat Sep 5th, 2015 05:52 PM

Oh, the agony of packing, the torture of those pre-trip schpielkies and then the blessed relief of the trip finally taking you. Been there, done that, looking forward to vicariously going along on your journey.
