I don't want to wisecrack: But the first (and unfortunately sole) info I can give you is that it is spelled "Landstuhl" ;-).

The nearest medium sized city is Kaiserslautern, as my map tells me. Apart from that I am not familiar with the area, which to me looks like the middle of nowhere, but I could be wrong, of course.

Enjoy your trip!

I suspect you may be interested because of the location of the US Army Medical Center at Landstuhl...is this correct?

Hi
Thanks for the quick reply.

Well here the story. I am doing a little research for my nephew, an Army helicopter pilot, who is going to Landstuhl(from Baghdad)for a few days R&R. I know but what did you expect from the Army, paradise?

Landstuhl is adjacent to the Pfalz and Nahe regions - both noted as wine regions and for picturesque small villages. Prime examples are Deidesheim and Bad Durkheim, both within an hours drive. A little further afield are Speyer and Worms, both on the Rhine and noted for their cathedrals. Worms, of course, is where Luther refused to recant, thus initiating the Reformation.

Diver - I'm going to be in Landstuhl on Saturday. There's a huge AF base there (Ramstein) and there is a large Army community nearby. There's a lot to do within a couple of hours from there. Is your nephew going to be on his own, or is he coming in with other people from his unit? Is he spending his entire two weeks there?

If you want to email me directly, maybe I can help. [email protected] - just put something in the subject line so it doesn't go into my junk mail.

Landstuhl seems like a rather odd place to be going on "R+R" but I suppose it is possible. He hasn't been injured in any way hasn he or being air-evac'd to Landstuhl for medical treatment?

Hi

Thanks for the reply. Steve will be in Germany the last week of this month flying the simulator, like he needs training. he a blackhawk pilot with over 15,000 hours I guess it the Army's way of saying you need a break from being shot at everyday. Simulators are in two different towns but best guess at this time is Landstul. The surrounding area sounds nice and a drastic environmental change. He'll be on his on knowing him he'll also be looking for a little adventure. All your information is appreciated
Thanks, DIVER
