Laundry in Germany
 

Ok, I know to some this will sound like a silly question, but its a genuine concern of mine. When my husband and I were in Spain 2 years ago we couldn't do any laundry, most of the hotels we stayed in were small and did not have laundry service. We were told that laundromats were only an American thing and sure enough could not find any. So on our upcoming trip to Germany we'd like to be able to pack as light as possible, which means having to do laundry. I've read that finding laundromats in Munich is not a problem, however we'll only be in Munich at the beginning and end of our 14 day trip, not when we'll be looking to clean our clothes. In the middle of the trip we are staying in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Meersburg (on the Bodensee, at the Gasthof Zum Baren), and at a small farm near Oppenau in the Black Forest (who's web site does not specify if a washing machine is available). While I can wash certain underthings by hand anywhere, it would really be helpful to have access to a washer and dryer for pants and shirts. Any comments on whether we might find a laundromat in Garmisch, or Meersburg (or nearby)? What have others done when they needed to do laundry and were not in a big city? Thanks for your help.

I think laundromats only exist in Germany in cities with a large student or at least singles population. Dont think you can find them in small towns like Meersburg or GAP.

You shouldn't have any problem finding one in Garmisch-Parten. There were two in the small village of Grindelwald, Switzerland, and one in the small village of Montepulciano, Italy.

I like the ones that you drop off in the morning, they wash/dry and fold, and you pick up in the afternoon or the next day. That way you don't waste hours in the laundry mat.

On our trip, we asked at the hotel desk and they said they could send them out for us. Very convinient. I had been thinking we would go to a laundromat and wash them ourselves, but in retrospect, this was MUCH better :)

We did wash some smaller things out in the sink periodically as well.
