Laundromats on Santorini and Mykonos?

I will be in Greece for 17 days at the end of June through the first week of July with two girls- ages 11 and 15. We're staying in Oia on Santorini and in Mykonos Town. The kids are already planning on what to pack, and I am trying to convince them that they don't need to bring every item of clothing that they own. I want to only bring one suitcase for each of us. I'm hoping there are Laundromats so that we can pack lightly and maybe do some wash while we are traveling. My 11 year old is quite the tomboy, and is know to get a little messy! Are there do it yourself Laundy facilites on the islands?

I don't know about Mykonos but there are no self-service laundromats on Santorini. Your option is to have your hotel do your things if they have that option (probably expensive) or find one of the dropoff laundry businesses available. You'll either be charged by the kilo or by the load. I'm sure your hotel can tell you where the nearest one is located.

I would ask your hotels in Oia and Mykonoa.

I used one in Fira on Santorini, but can't remember exactly where it was. The town is very small so you shouldn't have much trouble finding it. Possible there will be one in Oia. This was several years ago. It was an inexpensive wash and fold--we left all the stuff and picked it up later in the day.

Everything seems to get dirty quickly on the islands--the heat, sand/dust and wind. You really aren't aware of it until you look at your feet, if you're wearing open shoes!!

We couldn't find any laundries where we stayed on Crete and found a woman who would do it for us at her home. It was very cheap and the clothes were spotless.

There is a drop-off laundromat in Fira Town. Stand in the town Square (rectangle actually, and really a wide spot in the main road!), facing downhill. Walk down the cobbled street on LH side of Square, to the next parallel Street. Turn Left. About 50 feet along, steps up from the street, on your left, is the place... at least it was there about 3 years ago, and I'd seen it there on 2 previous trips.

PS - for 17 days, the girls' ration should be about 7 tops, 2 long pants, 2 crop pants, 2 shorts. CHALLENGE them to be clever & select for maximum coordination!

Jan-

Thanks, I agree with you- although my 15 yr old is alreasdy having anxiety about your suggestions!lol! On the other hand, the 11 year old would wear the same top 3 days straight- icecream drips and all!

Kidding aside, they will HAVE to pack lightly regardless. If they can't roll their bags themselves, it stays home...I know- mean mom!

To everyone-

Thanks for the info regarding the drop off laundromats. We will probably use one of them at least once.

Bill- that's great! Our hotel location is proving to be very convenient! I'll make a note of the #.
