Georgeanna,

I stayed at the Hotel Jacques or Hotel St. Jacques which is in the Lation Quarter. I stayed there in the Fall of '98 and paid approx. $78 for a magnificient room with a partial view of Nortre Dame & the Pantheneon(?). The staff spoke english and were more than hospitable. I don't know the cost for summer rates or if they have a/c. I also heard that Hotel Famiglia or something like this is a nice place to stay. It is approx. 3 blocks away from the Hotel St. Jacques.

I loved the Latin Quarter & was VERY pleased with our accomodations. If you need any other info, please feel free to write me directly. Good luck. You will LOVE Paris!

Mary

Georgeanna,

Perhaps Mary is referring to Hotel Familia. We stayed there last year with our two children and were happy with it. We had a quad room which ran about $120 as I recall. It has a web site, but if you can't find it write me and I will look up info for you. Location is great, and M. Gaucheron was
helpful. The family runs the business and speaks English. P Klontz

Both of these recommendations are 2-star hotels, with lots of charm and a warm welcome, but no a/c. 3-star hotels usually have air conditioning, but will cost a bit more.

Try a search for "Paris hotel" on this site, and/or on the many recommended booking sites, to get an idea of whats is available. You could start here:
http://www.hotelboulevard.com/hotels...nt.asp?arrdt=5

The Residence Monge by the Arènes de Lutèce in the 5th is a two-star hotel that does have air-conditioning. It is close to the Jardin des Plantes

I forgot to mention that you can find comments about the hotel (good ones) at www.paris.org.

I recently stayed at the Residence Monge, and would stay there again. The rooms have been recently renovated and weren't as small as I had anticipated them being. The bathroom did have a tub instead of a small shower stall, which was nice. It also had a frig and the mini bar cost wasn't too expensive. There are 2 metro stops close by, the Place Monge (line 7) and the Card. Lemoine (line 10).

Try the following sites: discoverfrance.com
digital.france.com
globe-market.com

I searched and searched for a hotel in the 5th or 6th for our family (2 adults and 2 children). The people at discoverfrance were very helpful although I ended up making the reservation over the phone because we were looking for a 'family' room. All they're hotels have been mentioned on these boards and seem very nice - mostly 3-star. We're going in Aug. and air conditioning was a priority. We're at the Hotel Dauphine St. Germain, hope its as nice as everyone says! Good luck.

We just returned from Paris, my husband and I with two daughters, 17 and 23, we had two rooms at the Jardin du Luxembourg hotel, great location, small quaint rooms, typical french building, great dead-end quiet street, 3 blocks from Notre Dame, easy walking, also, great breakfast, cereal, yogurt, lots of fruit, juice, coffee, 710ff for double, about $100. we thought it was great, have fun,

Hello, Have any of you stayed the Hotel des Arenes? Would you recommend it? recently received an email from them about a room available for a visit early in October. not sure if they have A/C or if that should be a concern in Oct. thanks
