Last night stay before flight to USA from Edinburgh
Can you recommend a village or town with easy access to the Edinburgh airport? We will have morning flights and will need to return a rental car. We are looking for a place to have a quiet last night dinner and rest before our flights home.
Thank you. |
Edinburgh airport is only about 30 minutes from the city anyway, how about Edinburgh?

We will have been in Edinburgh for part of the trip, so I thought it would be fun to stay somewhere different for the last night.

Linlithgow is a lovely palace, nice historic palace and where mary Queen of Scots was born. will only take 15 minutes or so to drive to the airport from there, double that time is hitting the morning rush hour.
no sure how it is off for accommodation but there are several B&bs in town |
Thank you, Unclegus. Just what I needed!

I visit the town quite often as there are some great walks in the area as well as a big viaduct and aquaduct, you can even take a walk along the canal over the aquaduct and walk back to Linlithgow by walking underneath the Viaduct.
The Four Mary's pub in the town is great for food and does some excellent Scottish beers, not sure if they do room as well. The palace is in the middle of the town and they sometimes have ceilidhs there in the summer time as well as other events and there is a man made lake at the back of the palace that is very pleasant for an evening stroll. |
Thank you very much, sounds like exactly what I had in mind!

booking.com are showing a couple of places in the High street that should do you, Star and Garter and the West Port. |
Or even closer than Linlithgow, look right at Queensferry, aka South Queensferry, the historic little village adjacent to the airport. Stay at the Hawes Inn, where R.L. Stevenson wrote part of Kidnapped, or at the Orocco Pier Hotel, with its stunning waterfront views of the Forth bridges.
I've also stayed at the slick/sleek Dakota, up the hill from the Queensferry waterfront - very comfortable, all mod cons, free and easy parking, and usually very reasonable. Queensferry has several good restaurants, it's wonderful for evening strolls, and you're around 5-10 min. from the airport. http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.u...thqueensferry/ http://www.vintageinn.co.uk/thehawes...thqueensferry/ http://www.oroccopier.co.uk/ http://www.dakotahotels.co.uk/hotels/edinburgh/ |

Just saw your thread. I was going to suggest either Linlithgow or South Queensferry -- and both were already recommended. They are probably the only places I'd stay if not IN Edinburgh itself.
If I had to choose just one -- probably South Queensferry -- mainly for the restaurants (but do visit Linlithgow Palace on your way there) |
