Last Night in Rome
 

We will be spending 2 weeks in Italy in June for our honeymoon and on the last night we will end up staying in Rome before we fly out the next morning. We likely will get to Rome in the mid-to-late afternoon and clearly, we are not expecting to cover much territory.

Any suggestions for what to see/where to go on the last night of our honeymoon -- either restaurant suggestions or sightseeing or anything?

Just saw the "100 best things to do in rome" thread... will definitely read that thoroughly...

any specific suggestions to help us prioritize our limited amount of time would be great!

Go down by the Spanish Steps and hook up with a carriage ride of the City Lights in Rome. We did ours in the evening, but I think you can do it during the day. Negotiate with the drivers, for your best price, my husband recall it being about $100.00 to $150.00, but that was in 1998. I think we were able to bring a bottle of wine with us. A very nice way to remember Rome! Arrivederci Roma!!:(

Oh! I found it in my Fodors book from that trip.

It reads: A ride in a horse-srawn carriage can be fun when traffic is light, especially on a Sunday or holiday or during the summer. Com to terms with the driver before starting out. City-regulated rates are about 50,000 kure fir 30 minute ride, and about 85,000 lired for an hour. Refuse to pay more. You can find the carriages at Piazza di Spagna, (Spanish Steps), Piazza Venezia and on Via del Corso near the Hotel Plaza.....Again this book was published in 1996, so allow for inflation...Enjoy...

Don't be cheap - spring for the $250 ride and laugh at the way people have to scramble to get out of your way! And take someone dependable along to hold your wine so you won't be seen pouring it yourself.
