Last minute tips for Greece

We leave Sunday for our first trip to Greece. I've researched and planned for months, collected tons of suggestions from all of you on restaurants and sites to see, and even learned a little Greek.

We'll be 3 nights in Athens (Electra Palace) with a side trip to Delphi, then 3 nights in Mykonos (Harmony Hotel) with a side trip to Delos, 1 night in Heraklion (Lato), 2 nights in Chania (Casa Delfino), 3 nights in Santorini (Esperas) and 1 last night in Athens (Electra Palace)before flying home.

Do you have any suggestions for "hidden treasures" in any of these locales? A wonderful little shop, spot with a spectacular view, or other tidbit of info that no guide book ever mentions? We've always found that it's the little moments that are the most memorable aspects of our trips.

Anything come to mind?

I hope it´s not too late:

Visit Anafiotika, a village on Acropolis hill.

Have rabbit in my old friend´s tavern "Apostolis" in Ano Mera (Mykonos).

On Delos climb the Mt. Kynthos (113 mt/ 371ft).

Visit in Iraklion (Martinengo Bastion) the grave of Crete´s greatest writer and the Zorba-creator, Nikos Kazantzakis: “I hope for nothing, I fear nothing, I am a free”.

During your trip read in Miller´s The Colossus of Maroussi. This he writes on Delphi: “The atmosphere is superhuman, intoxicating to the point of madness.”

Have a nice trip and tell me

If you like walking and cityscapes, I suggest you get hold of a wee book about Chania, the name of which escapes me; but I'll put it in when I get home, which gives you a guided walking tour of the old town. We found it fascinating.

Go down the steps near Esperas to the wharf at Ammoudi. Walk to the left along the seawall as far as you can go. Swim across the narrow channel (less than 50 yards) to the small rock island. There's a small concrete platform on this island just out of sight from the end of the seawall. You can sunbathe out there with a spectacular view from sea level of the island and the caldera. Leave your valuables back in the hotel or carry them with you in a waterproof bag of some sort.

Then go back to Ammoudi wharf and enjoy a great lunch at Katina's Fish Taverna.
