Last minute theater tix in London?
Well, my ex is doing things at the last minute, as usual (one reason we split...don't ask) - but he's taking a lovely lady to London at the end of December and trying to get tix for theater - NOT a musical, which makes things even more difficult.
Are there any routes for last minute tix to "serious" theater other than tkts? ("Hamlet" of course would be ideal, but it is sold out)
I have suggested tkts and checking with hotel concierge, of course, and poring over the TimeOut London site for shows likely to be interesting but not sold out, but are there reasonably reputable ticket brokers where he could get tix at this point to the more popular plays? Under the circs, he doesn't really want to go to the theater the night of the show and hope someone's selling extras.

I say the guy who wants tickets for a London show at the last minute during a holiday period should figure this out himself.
Anyhoo, there are nearly always tickets available for a price. (Probably not "War Horse," though, which would be my first choice.) After a single google search, I found two sets of two tickets (or perhaps the same two tickets) for "Hamlet" on Dec. 29th for 200-225 pounds each.

If he works through his hotel's concierge, he should be prepared to add a tip to the inflated cost of the tickets.

He could always just try the theatres' own websites - now. That's what I'd do. Tickets will be available for most things, without stupid mark-ups. If he's into 'serious' theatre, anything at the National Theatre is usually worth seeing, much better than almost anything in the West End and cheaper - www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/whatson. I'd go for 'Juno and the Paycock'.
I really don't understand why you are doing this, though !

Don't know exactly what you mean by the End of December, but there are still very good seats available for The 39 Steps:

This is a great show - a four-person comedy cross between Hitchcock and Python in a very small theatre...very British. Not a musical...but not Hamlet either.
We saw it 2008 - just walked in about a half-hour before the start and got tickets in the first row upper circle (great seats currently going for 37.50 GBP) for about half-price.
