Last minute questions?
Just finishing up with the last of the details for our trip to Greece. I still have a couple of questions to ask....
1. I haven't purchased our ferry tickets from Santorini to Mykonos; should I purchase them in advance or wait until we get there? This would be for July 2nd.
2. I have only seen ferries for the Seajet (or Superjet) and the Flying Cat 3 & 4; are there any other ferries that go between these two islands?
3. If the answer to question #2 is no and I have to choose one of those ferries, which one would be less likely to give me motion sickness (if any)?
4. I have received great answers to all of my other posts but one question still has me wondering what I should do; After arriving in Athens at 02:35am and taking the X95 bus to Syntagma (sp?) square, will we feel safe at that time of night with kids and luggage walking to Hotel Attalos? I know it is very close but it will be dark and it will be late. Just looking for personal reflections of whether it will be safe and easy to get to hotel or should be consider other alternatives?
As always Thank you,
namaka

2. no
3. Both are passenger-only catamarans. Flying Cats are larger.
4. I have walked 6 blocks from my hotel to the x95 at 3:30 am, alone ... I am a retiree, I spent 35+ years in NYC, Athens is the safest large city at night I have known in my lifetime.

Oh travelerjan,
Your responses are exactly what I was looking for...
Thank you again especially for putting my mind at ease about walking to the hotel in the middle of the night.

regarding 4.
Athens used to be the safest large city, but unfortunately not anymore. I am Athenian, born and raised and like most Athenians i don't feel safe anymore in the center of our city.
The so called historical center of Athens which is defined by a big triangle that includes also Monastiraki is not safe anymore, especially the part between Athinas Street ( where hotel Attalos is located) and Pireaus street. If you go there by day you will believe that you are in another continent, all the streets are full of illegal immigrants and drug addicts, and there have been serious cases of violenece /attacks and thievery. Walking down to Attalos from Syntagma with luggage should take around 15 minutes, you would walk down Ermou Street ( main pedestrian walkway).
Safest thing to do is to take a taxi infront from Syntagma square, and go to your hotel, even if it's only 500 - 700 meters away

Jan has covered all your questions, I would only add to #4.
Yes, totally safe, but I'm thinking of other things. A lot depends on the amount of luggage you have, the Attalos is nearly a kilometre away & the surface is not that even. I have no idea how you feel about dragging your luggage that far, for some it would be a problem, others wouldn't have any trouble.
To walk there, turn right as you get off the bus, go across the crossing & turn right across that road. Take the next left (Ermou St, pedestrianised)keep walking, you will go around a small church in the middle of the street. Soon after that the pedestrianised bit finishes & then after a few minutes you will come to a main junction with another busy road, turn right, this is Athinas St. Your hotel is a couple of hundred yards up there on the left.
The alternative is to do that bit in a 2 minute taxi ride, there are taxis at the bottom of the sqaure near the entrance to Ermou St.
