Last Minute Pointers?????

My daughter and I leave on our first European trip today. I think we're ready.

*Bags are packed
*Credit card companies and banks have been informed of travel dates--thank you fodorites for the tips on Capital One and Compass Bank
*All tickets, passports, etc. have been photocopied and left with my husband for an emergency situation
*Itineraries are printed and placed inside front pocket of suitcases (and left for dh)
*All electronic devices are charged and ready (adapter purchased and packed)
*Phone is unlocked and European SIM is packed
*Will attempt to get $100 in Hungarian forints just in case the ATMs at the airport are down, but if I don't make it to the downtown bank, that's o.k. too
*Have packed passports and tickets (confirmations, etc.)

Am I missing anything? I followed the 3-1-1 rule when packing my carry-on....

Breathe and have a good time.

Pack your sense of humor and leave at home any expectations that Europe is like home.

Check on internet the change rate. Then change at airport a very small sum (just for taxi, if you need it), because in the town an change offices the rate is better. However, even in town, check the displayed rate to be close to what you knew from internet (thsi rate varies very much from one office to other).

Have a nice trip!

Hello Kellye,

Your first European trip, and a Mom and Daughter trip as well! ((L)) How doubly special for the both of you.

Besides Hungary, are you visiting anyplace else?

Have a wonderful time!

Take extra copies of passports, credit cards, driver's licenses etc and keep separately from where you keep the originals. Makes it easy to replace in case something happens. (You mentioned you gave copies to DH but I didn't see that you said you were also taking these extra copies with you)

Have a great trip.

Make sure DH has doctor's and insurance info, just in case. You didn't mention a camera or your journal for writing your trip report notes!

Don't bother going downtown for Hungarian forints without calling to see if they have any. A lot of places wouldn't have that kind of currency readily available.

If you want to plan ahead for any emergancies you might want to list the phone numbers of the American Embassy or Consolate in the cities your will visit. Local Hotel and airline numbers might come in handy just in case.
