Thanks
Thanks to all of you for being so helpful. I checked out all the recs and booked at the Hotel de Fluere, with a utility to cancel until the 39th. I'm going to look up the convent though. As a Catholic it could be interesting. My mother and I stayed in a convent in Rome years ago! A full circle experience for her as she went to work in a convent at age 14!
On the plane to Marseilles now and super excited! |
Glad to hear you're off! Hope to hear how your trip goes and whether you stay with your lodgings in Paris or try the other one.
If you are Catholic, a few suggestions for you: I presume you will visit Notre Dame. Just blocks from Notre Dame is Sainte-Chappelle. It is some of the most beautiful stained glass in the world. Even my teenagers were awestruck. My youngest, then 15, says it was the favorite thing he saw on our trip. A lesser known church I really loved was Notre Dame Des Victoires. It is in the 2nd arr., not terribly far from the Louvre. You will need the address if you use Uber or taxis; it is not famous today. Pilgrims would stop here enroute to the Way of St. James in Spain. This church was very special to St Therese de Lisieux, the Little Flower. Across the street is a nice cafe for lunch, with lovely scenes painted on the ceilings. St Sulpice and St Germain Des Pres are also nice in the 6th. My understanding is that the organ at St Sulpice is amazing but I did not get to hear it. |
While I have never used Kayak to book a hotel, and only used Hotels.com once, I just now checked them for your dates (3 stars in reasonably-central locations) and found numerous possibilities in the $100-$125/night range...and some less expensive.
I did not read reviews...just tried to get a feel for availability. If that is your price point, you should have no trouble finding a place to stay....in some ways, last-minute booking can yeild good rates, because the hotels want to fill their rooms. We have always stayed in the Marais, but any place in the 4th-7th is centrally located and close to lots of sights. ssander |
