Last-minute Paris Hotel - HELP!
Just found out I will be staying in Paris at the BEGINNING of my 7 weeks iso the end. I know, I know -- June is busy! Looking for a single room, 5th or 6th would be ideal, and not too expensive. Please help! TIA.
please say what price you have in mind.
Do you require an elevator, and/or a/c? |
...ratestogo and venere are both excellent sites
Try the Hotel De Villas, a 2* with a/c and an elevator. It's in the 5th, not far from the Pantheon.
I was hoping for under 100 euros... and no lift required... thanks to those who answered! I'll try your suggestions.
try the hotel de Lys, on rue Serpente.
Gets great reviews, no elevator. Also try Grand Hotel des Balcons. |
Underhill, do you have any info on the hotel des Villas? website? phone? I couldn't find it on the internet...tia!!
I think there are some decent budget hotels in the 5th, although I don't know about that budget -- try Hotel de la Sorbonne, Cujas Pantheon, Suez, and Monge for a few in the 5th. PErhaps the Regent on rue Madame in the 6th, as well as the Balcons. I think the Michelet Odeon is in that budget, or the Recamier, in the 6th. You can find many of these (I know Michelet) on www.parishotels.com which is a good resource.
The Hotel Devillas may be a decent budget hotel, but it is unfortunately not near the Pantheon. It is near Gare Austerlitz/St Marcel metro stop on the border of the 13th which is about 3/4 mile away. It isn't an area I would recommend for convenience or general desirability, if you have a choice, because of location and there are a lot of large govt buildings around there, as well as the train station. |
try the excelsior. www.excelsiorlatin.com
yes Christina, I agree, I got all interested the other day after the postings here and at tripadvisor on the DeVillas, but I rejected it once I saw the location. Paris has so many cute hotels, I don't settle for lesser locations.
I didn't mean "cute", I meant "good"
travelsinfrench- did you use the Fodor's hotel part of the site? In April, I found many that I could contact via email and reserve that way. I stayed at the Residence Les Gobelins, in the 13the, bordering on the 5th e, 20 minutes walk at to the Pantheon & Jardin du Luxumbourg. I had 3 different rooms at the hotel (due to side trips outside of Paris). The best was Room 12 on the courtyard with a double bed and a tub for 70 euros. Nice area, steps to the metro. You can read my review. You should be able to do well in Paris at the small hotels if you go up to 85-100 euros.

I'd make sure to have AC in my room. Many hotels in that price range offer rooms without. Paris can be damn hot in the summer months.

Hello everyone! I am planning a trip to Paris(among other places) next spring and I checked out the Hotel DeVillas website. I think that their hotels look very nice (comparable to 3 stars) for a very reasonable price. The manager was very prompt with his reply by email with answers to my questions. I know that the location isn't the Marais or the Saint Germain, but can you really have your cake and eat it too? Unless this area is an area that I wouldn't feel safe because of crime I am considering staying there. The other place that I am considering is the Hotel Muguet in the Rue Cler area. website: www.hotelmuguet.com. Good luck on your trip.
I doubt that the area around Hotel DeVillas is crime-ridden and unsafe. It's just farther away from the sights. It is close to Gare Austerlitz so I don't think it'll be an easy walk to the center of the 5th district. There have been posted here some recommended inexpensive, fairly charming hotels that are not so far away and in the 5th and 6th districts.
Francophile- I hear what you are saying. I think though that we sometimes want a hip location, with nice but original rooms for a very good price. I know there are places like that out there, but sometimes you have to decide what you want- location or charm at very reasonable prices.
tulips, I can understand you too. I guess for me I want to be within a short walking distance to the sights. Anyway, the DeVillas does look nice. I had checked their website up to last year as it's not a new hotel (it was on the Yahoo Paris hotel directory search) and they surely renovated the hotel and the website-good thing too. Back then the hotel's picture on the old website made it look univiting, scary in fact, like an old creaky mansion to me. The rooms did not impress then also.

I don't know when you're going, but I just got a last-minute reservation at the Royal Cardinal Hotel in the 5th for early July. You could try there. The website is www.hotel-royal-cardinal.com. Our room is under 100.

Thanks so much to everyone who gave hints and tips. I found one! Does anyone know about the VENDOME ST GERMAIN? It seems to have everything I need - close to what I want to see - in 5th!! - and, best of all, under 100 euros (I was astonished). Please let me know if you have info, I'll check back. TIA.
