Last minute Christmas break trip to France

Need some guidance. We decided to fly into Paris (arrive Dec 27) and out of Nice (January 4th). Very last minute plan, and now I am frozen on where to go! We have been to Paris before, so I only want a short stay there (plus rooms are in short supply and really high price). We are a family of 5, love food, markets, and just soaking up the culture. Any thoughts to a nice itinerary? My son does want to do a day in Monaco. Thank you for any help!

You actually don't have very long. Why not catch the train from Paris to Nice and stay there. It's a lovely city with lots of possible day trips by bus or train. We had a week there over Christmas one year and caught the train to Monaco (actually we were headed to the big market over the border in Italy but there was a strike so ended up in Monaco) and had a great day. There was a car museum owned by the royal family which we enjoyed. We also caught the bus to St Paul de Vence which is full of character, art galleries and places to eat. The tourist office in Nice was helpful with bus timetables.

One other thought is a bus trip to Beaulieu-sur-Mer and the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild.

We used this website to book an apartment (this was a number of years ago but they were very good to deal with) https://www.nicepebbles.com/

Once you're in Nice you can take the bus or the commuter train (TER) to Monaco and other towns in less than an hour. Or the weather might be horrible and you might want to stay put.

a whole day? Let's think, the market and the fort and then what? You'll eat better in Nice old town BTW. I'd send him off on the train by himself.

KayF, what market were you trying to get to in Italy?

It was the market in Ventimiglia, which is in Italy, close to the French border - some info below (we never got there but I'd heard it is large and busy). Worth checking it's operating over the Christmas period.
