Last Minute Advice on UK Itinerary

Hi guys need some input here as I'm headed for UK tomorrow :/

I'm flying into London Gatwick and have about 16 days before flying out of London Heathrow eventually. 1) Any suggestions for itinerary?

Some background: I've been travelling in Europe for about a month now and this is the last leg. Inclined to take things slower so probably just one or two more places to go, factoring in some time for London itself. So I have in mind to rent a cottage in a scenic countryside where I can use as base for a week (so I don't have to lug luggages anymore) and hopefully there's couple of things to do and neighboring places to check out. 2) Any ideas on where this place could be? What about Bath? Lake District?

3) I'm battling if I should rent a car and if it's more economical. I've just one other travelling partner with me. I don't intend to drive in London but think not may be useful for travel when I'm in the countryside, which pretty much is dependent on how accessible the sights are from the eventual location mentioned above.

Thanks in advance! Any tips and ideas are very welcome!

Tomorrow? Wow, you've left it very late. I take it you've booked your London hotel?

You can't see England in a week, so choose one area and stick with it. Bath is OK both for itself and places to link to, but going South West is a problem at the moment with floods.

The Lake District is out of season and it's not the best time of the year to see it in any case. Perhaps you could look at renting your cottage in the Cheshire countryside with rail links to Manchester, Liverpool and Chester. That would fill your week up easily.

I'd catch a train to York, booking an apartment up there at this time of year is easy, but get one with car parking facility. rent car in York and visit the yorkshire attractions for a week.

checkout Morgana and my name for attractions.

Be sure to keep upto date with the latest travel news as large areas of Britain are experiencing the worst flooding in history, which could affect your ability to get around.

I would also pick one area and concentrate on that for your trip. You could always come back and visit another area later on in the year / next year, as long as they are still above sea level

Have a good trip, and try not to let the weather get you down.

Another troll perhaps???

Leaving tomorrow, no ideas where you are going, and wanting to rent a cottage - I don't think this is happening . . .

So envious of your trip! Don't worry about accommodations or driving directions--yolo it! If I were you, I'd do London, Cornwall, the Cotswold, the Peak District, the Lake District, and throw in one of the little islands, too. I hear the Outer Hebrides are awesome in February. Obviously, you must rent a car. Obviously. In London, too, as it's a big city. Be sure to post your trip report afterwards. We're breathless with anticipation.
