Las Fallas in Valencia - worth making this event the focus of a short trip?

Who has been to this festival?
Reaction?
Where did you stay, etc?
Must you stay in the city?
Any nearby, small cities or towns with public transportation into the city?
Thanks

Your best bet is to stay three nights IN town or at edge of town. If you want to see the setting up of htese colassal efigies, then come tthe 14th. if you want to see them burn ( not the highest on MY list but people seem to like it) then stay through til the 19th. Or, come for a couple days.14-16. go away somewhere else and come back for one or two nights at end.19-20

Orange rooms downtown MAY still have space. These are ensuite bedrooms with a shared kitchen and living .Two flats per floor.

An area that is sometimes much cheaper and quieter is the Palacio de Congreso area. good bus transportation and metro to center/center.Hotel sorolla palace, melia palacio de congresos, confortel, eurostars, expo hotel is closer to the river but basic but convenient. no personality.Tour groups use it a lot.

Plaza Picasso apartments along the river.

There are lots of activities every day to try to see. www.fallas.com

Hope you come. I think it can be a beautiful experience if you pace yourself, come early before the last days ' crowds arrive and make lunch reservation everyday to not get stuck with the mobs trying to find a place to eat.

My brother LOVES coming to visit us during this time. We will be here if you are up for a coffee.

Downtown center/center hotels will be pricey.. especially last 3 days.

Yes, you should stay in the city if possible, the Carman quarter works best. You don't want to have to travel too far or depend on public transportation.

Here are a few of the images from one of our first trips to Fallas.
