Large room in London under 200.USD
 

Looking for a hotel in London for 3 nights in October. under 200 including all taxes.
Would prefer a boutique rather than American chain hotel.
Would like a large room modern bathroom and breakfast.
Would like a good location. Will be arriving at Pancras and departing from Heathrow.
Would like near tube stop that will be easy access to Heathrow for early flight departure.

anyone experiene the Shaftesbury Chain hotel?/ They seem to have good rates.

Amazing thing is that in Great Britain, their entrepreneurs have established chain hotels of their own! How they did this without the Americans controlling the whole business is beyond me. And shockingly enough, the UK has its own chains of supermarkets, food stores, drug stores, clothing stores, toy stores, liquor stores and more. Not just that, but some of those chains have -- GASP -- opened locations in the United States. </rant>

Go to Londontown.com or similar. Maybe a tourbook company's website like Fodors.com will have listings too.

Or better yet, if you're staying for about a week, rent a flat, which will be larger than a hotel room.

If you want boutique, your budget might be on the low side.

Nona1 one is right, your budget is low for your requirements. The tube to Heathrow is the Piccadilly Line. Runs through Russell Square, close to St. Pancras. You might want to search for hotels in that area.

And the reason you are getting some funny responses is that your post comes across as rude. You haven't asked for help of advice. You've just given us your shopping list. I'll be nice and put it down to maybe not having English as first language?

Normally, I would say you could only get 2 of your 4 "would likes" for under $200 USD all in for central London. But here are four that seem to meet all your demanding requirements - except for maybe "large rooms".

BTW - What is "large"? To who? In sq. ft? Large for central London?:

For what its worth, Best Westerns in Europe bear no resemblance at all to their US counterparts. Best Western is a franchise operation, they don't own the hotels they just market them and run the central booking system. All the BW's I've stayed in in Europe were individually owned and had their own unique character - some were good others less so, but all different in their own way.

I think the funny responses are due to the odd request about "American" chain hotels, it shows a lack of knowledge of European hotels. For example, Best Western hotels in Europe are not American, they are European and locally owned and run and don't bear any resemblance to US Best Western road-side chain motels. Same for HOliday Inns. There was a Holiday Inn in Paris (which is now another American chain hotel, Crowne Plaza, I think) which is a historic monument (the one at place Republique). For some routine chain hotels in Europe, they are no more fascinating than American chains (ie, Etap). A lot of Hiltons in Europe are very nice hotels, also, as are some other American chains, not to mention the Four Seasons.

A lot of American chains bought European boutique hotels and re-badged them. And the low middle-end hotel chains in the US (Days' Inn, Best Western, Holiday) often have better hotels in Europe than their average franchises in the US (a Days' Inn in Florence was good when I stayed there 14 years ago, but I wouldn't go to one in the US).

Anyone stay at the Grand Royal Shaftesbury near Hyde Park?

The Grand Royal Shaftesbury is nowhere near the tube line to LHR. It is in Inverness Terrace near the Queensway station on the Central Line. You'd either have to take a taxi to Paddington and the very expensive Heathrow Express train -- or you'd have to take the tube w/ 2 line changes.

If you want to be convenient to LHR - you need to either stay along the Piccadilly tube line, OR stay anywhere and take a pre-booked car service.

You say an early AM flight -- how early? The tube doesn't operate 24/7 . . .
