Large luggage lockers at Gare du Nord
 

I recently read a post on trip advisor that the large luggage lockers at Gare du Nord are only available for a 24 hour period, if you want to leave ( large) luggage for the 72 hour maximum, you have to return every 24 hours to deposit monies. I've researched numerous sites regarding luggage storage at Gare du Nord and no mention has been made of this, but this person was quite adamant in having to do so. Could he just not have known what he was doing? Or got an off kilter locker?


Also wondering if it might be a problem securing a locker during the European Cup ( will need locker June 28th - July 1st ) as we head off to Loire for a couple of days. It's 23 kilo bag with rock climbing equipment and didn't want to carry it on train to/ from St. Pierre- des-Corps. We will leave on Eurostar on July 1st.

I could only speculate that it will indeed be a problem during the European cup to find space.

As for the other point, I haven't used them and the official info on various websites (SNCF above and parisinfo.com) is unclear on this point. If you had to put more money in after 24 hours, I would think it would clearly state that 24 hours was the maximum time, that's all. It does say 72 hrs is the maximum is some places like here.

On the other hand, the SNCF website clearly states that in some places you can leave them up to 14 days, so that doesn't make sense, either.

But it doesn't make any sense to say there is a 72 hour maximum if you'd have to put more money in every 24 hours, there isn't any way they could regulate that. In fact, I suspect if you got your bags out at 70 hours, you could just re-up and buy more time, how would they know. But the point of that is not to let people leave bags there for days on end while traveling, so it sorts itself out in that way.

I would presume the guy wasn't making that up, though, on TA. I notice you mention he said that about the "large" ones. So maybe it does differ by size and the large ones have essentially a 24 hour limit.

He says that 24 hours is the limit, but after that, they remove and hold them a few days manually, it varies by train station on the limit. So I suspect the issue is the automatic machine only works for 24 hours and that's what the guy was reporting, he had no idea, they would remove the stuff and hold it. I would certainly be nervous about leaving my stuff under such unclear conditions, unless there is a sign clearly posted at the lockers explaining this. I think that guy posting was at Montparnasse, not sure, but the method should be similar.

Eurostar last I knew accepts checked luggage - see if you can send it ahead on Eurostar trains if you have a valid ticket and it will wait for you in London?

Just a thought - not sure Eurostar checks luggage anymore but used to. Or go to FedEx, UPS, Sernam, etc - shipping companies like here that will send your bag ahead to any address in the world I believe.

Thanks for the responses. I'm beginning to think it'd be easier to just take the bag with us. I will, however, check out some of the suggestions. One idea is to just check at the left luggage in Montparnasse when we catch the train for St. Pierre-des-Corps and if it works we'll leave it if not we'll just continue with bag. We'll take a taxi from Montparnasse to Gard du Nord on return journey.

Day after tomorrow I'll be leaving the city, then returning for an overnight near the Gare du Nord before taking Eurostar Sunday morning. I also don't want to haul my main bag for just 3 days away so tomorrow evening I'll be dropping the bag at Saturday night's hotel. I cleared it with them and they are happy to keep it for me. It's something I do from time to time and have only had 1 B&B turn me down, years ago, so I booked elsewhere.

If your plans are flexible, you might consider a similar plan and it's always nice, I think, to be close to your train when you wake up in the morning.

My advice was regarding your bag only and storing it at an hotel if you'll stay the night before anywhere in town. And I've never been charged for the service.

Thanks. I'd try that but we will be staying in Chenonceaux the night before departing the next morning and dropping rental car at St. Pierre -des-Corps, traveling into Paris and then catching an afternoon Eurostar.

I think then they may charge per bag and not per locker?

Gare de l'Est and Austerlitz used to have 48- or 72-hour limits on their lockers with no need to come back every 24 hours.

No checked luggage on Eurostar trains except on the same train you are on for luggage that is deemed to big to comfortably bring aboard.

and it says 45 pounds is the lowest ticket for 2nd class so $70 ain't too shabby it seems.
