Laptop in Hotel
I am bringing a laptop during vacation to Paris and Rome because I have to keep up on some things during trip. Any suggestions re keeping safe in hotel rooms? Thanks.

Lock it in your luggage.

Simple, but effective. I didn't know if leaving it with front desk would be advisable. But I guess locking it in luggage would be fine.

The room safe in hotels often is large enough for a laptop.

David,

Does your company have web access to its e-mail system? If so, you're probably best off using the hotel's business center or a cybercafe.

It's often a pain hooking up the modem and getting an outside line and BEWARE of digital (ISDN) phone systems - very common in Europe - they'll fry your modem! Plus printing something out is virtually impossible...

Don't get me wrong, I travel with a laptop quite frequently, but live in Europe and know what to look for. If this is a first for you, don't expect it to be easy.

Andre

I consider traveling with a laptop and using cybercafes for internet access to be highly complementary ideas. Read and compose offline with your laptop - - then carry a diskette to and from the cybercafe.

Best wishes,

Rex
Thanks for the tips. My company does not have web access to its e-mail system. I was going to go online to get documents faxed to me or for me to fax back documents that I prepare, and also to check messages. Does the voltage adapter to anything to solve problem? Thanks.

Yes, why bother to bring your laptop if you can help it. It's another burden.
