Laptop

For first time I'd like to bring my computer to Italy. What do I need to bring in order to use my computer there and how to have internet in Italy? Thanks for your info.

I bring my little Asus EEE with built in WiFi and a plug adapter to charge it. Stay in a hotel with a hot spot or find a cafe with a hot spot. You are all set.

Your laptop charger is probably dual voltage (check to make sure), so you will only need an adapter so the plug will fit into the electric outlet in Italy.

You might also want to bring a short Cat5 cord. While many places have Wifi, some will only provide free internet through the use of a cord. I bring about a 6 footer.

If your computer does not have a card reader, bring one of those to download your photos through. I also usually bring a few blank DVDs to burn my photos onto.

I also bring a locking cable, so I can secure the laptop to a fixed object in the room. I bought an Acer 9"screen netbook last fall, and LOVE it for travel purposes. Retails around $325-399 (WinXP program costs a little more than Linux).

We just brought our laptop for the first time to Istanbul. I actually didn't use it enough to have to charge it, but I did bring the charger/cord and a plug adaptor in case. We used the computer in the common area of the hotel where they had wifi. They gave me a password, I signed in and was able to connect no problem after that.
