Languedoc gite suggestion
Has anyone stayed in a gite or house/cottage for 2 people they can recommend in the Carcassonne area (25 km. radius). Need a 3 or 4 "Wheatie" classification with 1- 2 bedrooms, 75 sq. meters or more. Any information about the area would be appreciated. Thanks.

We've satayed in 5 different Gites in the Languedoc/Roussillon region & have explored the area quite a bit. Personally, I would not stay that close to Carcassonne - I think other regions are more scenic and had more resaurants, groceries, etc close by.
I have a 35 page itinerary that I wrote that describes our favorite areas, villages, sites, markets, restarants etc. E-mail me at [email protected] if you want a copy. Do so soon because we're leaving for 3 weeks in Paris in about a week from now.

Thanks StuDudley--I already have your itinerary for Languedoc which I really am loving. All your postings on this Fodor Forum site have been tremendously helpful and interesting.
I was just hoping to get recommendations for a SPECIFIC gite in the AUDE area --I am simply overwhelmed by the listings in the gitedefrance website and love to hear from people about specific rentals they have enjoyed. I have used the SlowTalk site for Italy in this way a lot, but haven't found anything for Southern France that works for us.

Here are some sites for gites a little further east from Carcassonne. I have stayed for two-week periods in this area several times and find it very, very pleasant and varied. However, I have not stayed in the gites I'm sending the sites for, so cannot offer personal recommendations. (Keeping my own favourite a secret!)

My landlady had good things to say about the last one on the list and I've biked by it several times. Love the area (overlooks Minerve), but it's in the countryside away from many services you might want. Looks quiet and idyllic!)
Good luck.
