Language School in Carnero, Le March
 

We are in the early stages of planning a trip to Le Marche in Sept 2017 and are considering the above school as a focus for a week or two of our trip, classes in the morning only, five days a week.
Has anyone experience with this school?

I have read many of the trip reports and threads about this region, but will be coming back with more questions as plans progress.

We think we will base ourselves in one or two p,aces for our three weeks.

I live in Le Marche, but I had never heard of Carnero, and googling didn't help. Then it occurred to me that you might have meant "Conero", which is a mountain on the coast. There is an Conero Culture Center, which offers language courses.

If that's what you meant, it's in the town of Camerano, which is not exactly on the coast, but on the opposite side of Mount Conero. I don't know the town well, and I know nothing about the language courses, but I know the area very well.

I'll try to answer any questions you may have.

September is usually a very pleasant month in this area. We've just had an absolutely splendid September. Do you intend to rent a car? It makes getting around much easier.

So far I've been to four, and IME the more Italian you already know, the bigger you need the school to be, to be able to accommodate more advanced students. Most schools do all right by beginners and those with a bit of experience, but beyond that the numbers of students decrease so there may not be classes that suit your ability.

It certainly looks good, and gets good reviews on TA too. I like the one that says that it's good for young and old people!

I am a beginner, my wife is more knowledgeable but by no means advanced( though she did get us around Puglia, where very little English was spoken out of the larger towns).

We will rent a car and an apartment either in town or on the coast.

jubi - in that case it should be fine.

They talk about class sizes being around 6-8 people which is pretty good; fewer than that and though you get more attention, if you haven't got the right mix, it can be a bit difficult, more and you don't get enough attention.

jubi - all these places are a bit of a leap in the dark. The first time I went I did a lot of research, but in the end went to the place that "spoke" to me most. I'm not sure that it was the best school I could have gone to but it suited me and I learnt a lot, not necessarily from the lessons! The other three have been organised though the college where I go for evening classes so I didn't have that much choice.

For beginners of course the teaching matters most; IME Italian language teachers are very high quality but they expect a great deal of effort from their students. Adults like you will be well up for that but if you are in a class with a lot of youngsters, they may not be so keen so IMO it's a good idea to be with some other adults if possible.

You might like to write to them and ask them what proportion of adults to 16-18 year olds they usually have in their classes.

I had t considered that that age group would be free in Sept. Wouldn't they be in school?

Their FAQ says that in July and August they get a lot of young people but that the rest of the year the average age is older.

sorry, I'd missed that you were going in September. You're right, the kids should be back at school/college then.
