Lander ticket for Salzburg to Munich
Please advise if we can buy a Lander ticket for travel from Salzburg to Munich.
|
Yes. It's the Bayern Ticket. 29€. Direct RE (regional express) trains take two hours.
|
Since it's a Lander ticket, doesn't that mean it wouldn't go all the way to Salzburg?

With the help of the Bavarian government, that subsidizes the Bayern Ticket, they managed to add a few stops outside of Bavaria to the area where the ticket is valid, such as Salzburg (city only not the whole land of Salzburg) Ulm (in BW) and Kufstein. The ticket is alailable at the DB ticket vending machine inside Salzburg Hbf. (on the left side when you enter tha mail hall.) |

Thanks a ton all of you for the clarity. Can we also buy from the attendant at the ticket counter at Salzburg HBF as we sometimes get confused with the ticket vending machine.

Yes, you can - for a small surcharge.
But Salzburg Hbf is still under major construction, so you will have to look for ticket desks (currently they are outside the actual station building in a provisional pavillion). If you know already the exact date you plan to travel, you can get the Bayern Ticket via bahn.com while still at home and take the print-out with you. |
Thanks a ton to all the info. We will be coming from Zell Am See to Salzburg so we will use the ER ticket for Zell to Salzburg and the Lander ticket from Salzburg to Munich. As suggested we will buy the Lander ticket online.

The DB machine at the Salzburg Hbf has an English language function. You can buy your Bayern ticket very quickly there. Just be sure to get it for the correct day, as there are several choices. The machine takes cash and CC. The DB machines are similar to OeBB, where you buy the Einfach-Raus ticket. Good luck on your journey.

Thanks all will plan to get the ticket at home and carry a printout.

be sure to board only regional trains with that ticket as I believe it is not valid on the express trains - regional trains take about an hour longer - board express trains with a Lander ticket and I think you'd have to pay full fare and possibly a fine for not having a valid ticket.

Thanks PalenQ. Honestly the Lander ticket is very good value for money. Had used it last year too. Only inconvenience is the changes with the heavy bags.
