Lance to Return to Tour de France... for Khazikstan Team

Just in in the 2009 Tour de France Lance has signed on with a team from Khazaikstan

for a team that was banned last year i think from the Tour for doping and presently is on the Tour's ban list

Lance is hoping or expecting the Tour will lift the team ban

Khazikstan! Khazikstan! Khazikstan!

Doping is something Lance probably knows more than most...
On the other hand, he had still beaten all the other dopers in the Tour so he must be the best.

He probably ran out of American girls to shack up with then dump; Khazikstan offers a whole new field for him.

My understanding is that it is effectively his old US postal team with a new sponsor.

Does that mean they'll be injecting the same drugs as before?

How can I correct you softly and kindly? The country is "Kazakhstan" or it will look like you are making fun of them.

If you are, I take my post back

No the accepted English spelling is Khazikstan as i Googled before posting

Even Borrat i believes uses Khazikstan

Do you call Germany <Deutschland>

Or Spain <Espagne>

Or Munich <Munchen>

No - so it's Khazikstan properly in English i believe

I'll look at the NYTimes tomorrow and see how they spell it

Well when i googled Faina's spelling a lot of the same showed up, including Wikipedia so i agree she is right - NYTimes was the tip

But when i googled Khazikstan i also got many with that spelling of established sights

So i defer to Faina as being right and i wrong.

From Google:
There isn't anything available to you tagged with "khazikstan".

OK, not from Google, from Flickr

You people gotta have faith in a former USSR citizen

Lance can spell?

Cann anyone say "astana". It will be so hard for you Lance naysayers to say he is drug free. Get over it.

Here we go again.

Astana is the team.

The team was not invited to the 2008 Tour de France, not banned from it.

The Astana team is different from the one in which doping occurred. It is now managed by Johann Bruyneel and included Levi Leipheimer and Alberto Contador, stars of the 2007 Tour. Neither cyclist was charged with doping.
Leipheimer won the 2008 Tour of California, Contador, the Giro d'Italia Neither was charged with doping then either.

No one has ever proven that Lance Armstrong doped.

As Gretchen so succinctly puts it, get over it, guys.

Here's how the Astana team spells it: Kazakhstan.

http://www.astana-cyclingteam.com/Rider_Overview.aspx

At another page of the team's website is the announcement of Lance's return and info on his commitment to "changing the culture of drug testing in professional sports" to one where riders can prove they are cycling clean rather than having to prove they're not dirty. The team has retained Dr. Don Catlin who established the first (and now largest) anti-doping lab in the U.S.

http://www.astana-cyclingteam.com/ne...ssrelease.html

I met Dr. Catlin at UCLA in 1982 through my job when he was setting up the 1984 Olympic anti-doping lab. I ended up not working with him directly but heard from those who did that he is like a man possessed. I think retaining him was an excellent move on Lance/Astana's part. Lance's test results (and presumably the rest of the team as well) will be posted on-line, and I doubt there's a person anywhere (including the TdeF) that would question Catlin's reports.

No, No No.

It's never Munchen it's always and only München or if you're don't find an "ü" on you keyboard, then you may type Muenchen.

It you're Bavarian otoh, you may say "Minga".

Google has 16 mio votes for Kasachstan
but only 1700 for Khazikstan.

I'll use Kasachstan. Is it true that native English speakers can't pronounce "ch"? ;-) and say "kh" instead.
