Lambi Rocks

Sounds like the title of the latest album by some rock band, no? Actually these photos are of some unique volcanic rocks found on a certain beach on the island of Patmos--Lambi Beach.

The colourful rocks compose most of the shore there and are stunning to behold when wet.

They also make a pleasing, glassy 'chink' sound when wave action tosses them against each other.

Most are thumb-sized, give or take.

We have a prehistoric volcano to thank for this display of stones.

David Bowie listed Patmos among his favourite places to spend time. Seems that he stayed there with royalty and other aristocrats during the '80s. Betcha the famed rocker got stoned.

The stones were very beautiful. Our 'Spitaki' rental house up in the Hora featured its own private collection. Previous renter had been actor John Malkovitch.

Though there are some commonalities, most of the stones are unique.

Lambi beach has its own restaurant, so close to the water that you could almost dip your feet while eating.

The wide range of colours is astonishing.

Lambi rocks are a shutterbug's dream.

I added the buffed gem top right to this compile coz its golden-brown stripes added value.

These are amazing! I'm also one often looking out for stones when on holidays but I never photograph them, which you've done beautifully.
