Lambi Rocks
Sounds like the title of the latest album by some rock band, no? Actually these photos are of some unique volcanic rocks found on a certain beach on the island of Patmos--Lambi Beach.
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...beea640dd3.jpg The colourful rocks compose most of the shore there and are stunning to behold when wet. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...5c7c66ff47.jpg They also make a pleasing, glassy 'chink' sound when wave action tosses them against each other. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...6e2e67cd78.jpg Most are thumb-sized, give or take. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...b556610e63.jpg We have a prehistoric volcano to thank for this display of stones. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...8a74deed27.jpg David Bowie listed Patmos among his favourite places to spend time. Seems that he stayed there with royalty and other aristocrats during the '80s. Betcha the famed rocker got stoned. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...3d24a0d949.jpg The stones were very beautiful. Our 'Spitaki' rental house up in the Hora featured its own private collection. Previous renter had been actor John Malkovitch. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...7c5210cafb.jpg Though there are some commonalities, most of the stones are unique. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...d4794e00b2.jpg Lambi beach has its own restaurant, so close to the water that you could almost dip your feet while eating. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...b638c3e002.jpg The wide range of colours is astonishing. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...e2bb071614.jpg Lambi rocks are a shutterbug's dream. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...66af5d680a.jpg I added the buffed gem top right to this compile coz its golden-brown stripes added value. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...4b577e3337.jpg This lil beauty was our fave. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...82206de8d2.jpg Efharisto poli for viewing these Lambi rocks. |
Merci monsieur Adr1an, wherever you are.
I am done. The end. |
These are amazing! I'm also one often looking out for stones when on holidays but I never photograph them, which you've done beautifully.
